Ah, therein lies a cautionary tale:

An acquaintance of mine, an older lady (lets call her Susan), new to the gobbeldy gook of the internet, assumed the same as you in the messages she was sent. She then went on, over time, to send condolence messages to two of her friends whose respective husband and budgie had died, signing her messages 'Lol Susan x')

Needless to say she was mortified when she found out (well I though it was funny )

I read something the other day where someone's mum posted 'WTF' on a facebook thread about the grandkids. When asked 'Mum, do you even know what that means?', she said 'Wow, that's fantastic'.
