Although (did anyone notice last week?) 'our' government stated it now keeps a list of all 'activists'. You don't need a 'criminal record' to qualify. Merely express dissent re 'our' rulers' 'norms' and big brother's your uncle. The silky-smooth soothing voice of reason and logic. is that so they can keep track of todays important issues so they don't lose sight of them in an election?

OK, fair enough; they may not want us to have freedom, but I want it very badly. There's a theory that the hieght of the prison population is a corolary of law-breaking; I think it's indicative of the level of social injustice. Curious to know why it's taken you 12 days to reply, if you are that interested. As Silent_Storm says, CAAN does have a list of anti-SM journos. It's not by any means comprehensive, but it's a start. I don't really want to discuss this much more as I'm sick of the abuse I get from people about how I earn my living. Admittedly it's a minority but it seems to make no difference that a) I'm a long-established member of the scene, b) that I don't work for the tabloids, c) or in news-gathering full stop and d) that I despise some papers' practice of outing people. I've only ever tried to be supportive on here when it comes to handling the press, being able to offer an insider's perspective, and I've done stuff for CAAN when I can. People should be glad I'm on here, given that journalists have as much right to be kinky as anyone else and be part of the scene (and no one can deny my track record in running munches and supporting scene organisations). Instead I just seem to get a heap of memos calling me a liar, telling me I've no right to be on here, yadda yadda... I've posted helpful information yet again but it just gets ignored or people decide to respond so bloody late I've forgotten I even posted it. And the sad thing is we are all on the same side.

I didn't say you were attacking me. I asked you why you took 12 days to reply to my stats post. I think that, despite you now saying it was interesting, you actually didn't didn't give a toss about it until posted further info on how people here could do something proactive. And please don't hold me responsible for the ills of my trade, which is the impression I had 2 weeks ago. I'm not ashamed of what I do for a job, only of some people who drag my job into disrepute. Sorry to disappoint but of course CAAN does not have a list of anti SM journos. First becuase it would be totally counter productive. Second becuase it is quite difficult to spot exactly where in the journalistic process nastiness creeps in. Last year we spent a lot of time talking to a writer for the Mail. What we expected to be a fairly positive story ended up not. When we went back to her she claimed (and we have no reason to disbelieve)that her editor chopped a load of positive stuff about CAAN. About the same time a totally unbalanced story appeared o the bbc south east. This one we are pretty sure was simple accident. On the whole journalists find their work gets chopped, rewritten and skewed in ways wholey beyond their control. There are one or two very obvious exceptions. If Lewis Panther ever turns up on your doorstep you know you're in trouble, though knowing his name is likely to be the least of your worries.
On the plus side we are getting a far better idea who is trustworthy, who we can talk to. Jerome Taylor on the Independent: John Ozimek on the Register (and elsewhere); even Purvection (assuming her latest good news doesn't mean she's sold out to the establishment) Heresiarch too: we're sure you are a journalist really! If anyone would like to add others to this list let us know. Sign up to our statement of principles for the freedom of consenting adults to express themselves!

My error. I too believed it had some kind of list.
Absolutely true. A story can get changed at any stage - by the commission ed, the section ed, the subeditors, the lawyers. It doesn't matter whether we are freelance or staff, once the copy is filed, it's pretty much out of our hands
Despite the smiley, I find the suggestion I may have sold out really insulting. The vast majority of journalists DO have ethics. Those of us in the NUJ are also bound to the union's code of practice. I thought I was doing people here a favour by posting some useful info so they could participate in helping reform the PCC. They are very unlikely to have found that info otherwise. Next time I won't bother if I'm just going to have run the gauntlet yet again. It's really fucking tedious.
