I use my epilator for legs, underarms and bikini line (fairly extensive bikini line). The legs are fine, it's more of a strong tingle than anything. The underarms are AGONY, and I'm usually tempted to just shave...though my hair grows so fast, it's not really worth it. The bikini line for me is somewhere between the two...it's painful, but not too bad. I use my other hand to keep my bits out of the way. Two roads diverged in a wood and I, I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference. (R. Frost)

If you shop around, there are good professionals doing Brazilian and Hollywood wax for around £15 (in London, where I live). Epilady is not worth the aggro, seriously. "People are inherently evil, but very, very funny" - Joe Orton.

With a bit of practice it's fine! I use the SilkEpil one to take prettymuch everything off! It does hurt a fair bit at first, but it does gets easier with time. Honest! :o)

It sounds like the consensus is that it's painful. I think you should video yourself epilating and post the results somewhere where we can all evaluate your experiments. Purely for the benefit of women everywhere.

I don't find it painful. I leave the really delicate last little bit and do that with tweezers or a razor but, other than that, it's really not a bother.

Being a bit of a masochist probably helps!

TWEASERS?!! woah, no way! I use a trimmer called the femme fatale, its on its last legs now so i should really replace it ( i lost the charger ages ago and use a nokia charger to power it!) I've had a bikini wax once, and i don't think I'd do it again. I think epilators are evil. bite me... please?

Having got fed up with razor rash and ingrowing hairs from shaving and finding anything more than just a tidy-up round the edges of my bikini line tooooo painful with the epilator, I recently invested in a home use IPL unit. After just one go ( it is recommended that it is used weekly for 12 weeks to catch all the hairs as it targets the ones in the growing phase best) there is a noticeable decrease in hair. It is patchy, as expected at first, but in fact this will make targeting the remaining hairs easier. It is virtually pain free with just a split second 'ping' against the skin, rather like being gently flicked with a rubber band. Best of all when it is all done it will be almost permanent ie. will only need 'touch up' treatments every few months. Yayyyyy!!

Personally, i'd chose waxing to the use of an epilator, any day, and any where on me. The latter is much much more painful. The former is more inconvenient though, and more expensive in the long run. |
