There are days when you really shouldn't attempt to do anything. When everything you try turns to fuckwittery and the simplest actions become herculean tasks. When you want to facepalm at yourself.
On days like these friends are a great comfort. They laugh with you instead of at you. They take time out from their own problems to give comfort and solace. They share their own stories of self inflicted humiliation so you don't feel so alone in your fuckwittery. They are kind to you when you can't be kind to yourself
Stroking hair works for me too, there is something so soothing about it. Stroking other people's hair that is, stroking mine makes me hunch my shoulders right into my neck. Old favourite films that wrap around you like a warm blanket. Music is a great help. And poetry. Yes I did say poetry. Not writing it (my secret shame) but reading it.
So for my friends and everyone else whose day has turned to dust in their mouths. Here are three poems that made my day worthwhile. Just discovering that Pablo Neruda wrote a poem called " Ode To My Socks" was enough to make me smile.
