We go to quite a few events round the country. We draw the line at London based ones, unless we can fit in two or three over one weekend. It's still a bit far to drive for a weekend though so we don't get that far south very often.
We've been doing this for nine years (and a bit), I think my first foray south of the border to go to a BDSM/fetish club was to Club Lash, Manchester in June 2000, closely followed a month or two later by Rapture at Caesar's. We were regularly at Lash and Rapture for a year or more, before work shifts and other things changed and getting there became harder to do.
We've tried all sorts of places, from tiny little places to absolutely huge spaces. We've been to events where you 'have to be known' and events where the only criteria for getting is was to proffer the right amount of cash. And all sorts of places in between.
This year, we've been to some events that seem to have fallen on hard times. Once very good and well worth making a trip, they're now no more than a very quiet shadow of their former selves. Numbers are down and when a venue can hold more than four, five or even six times the number who have turned up, it can look very empty indeed.
OK so when a club is quiet you have more chance of getting the piece of dungeon furniture you want to use, instead of taking the bit that is available. And I've frequently said that, for me, going to a club isn't so much about socialising as it is about playing. We play less now than we used to and so socialising has become a little bit more important.
A venue that is more than half empty no longer has the appeal for me that it did when it was busy. And so there are some clubs I am writing off my list of places I really really enjoy going to.
Because I just don't enjoy them any more.
And that's a shame.

But if people don't go because they aren't busy, then they won't be busy for people to go to. And if they do become busy again, you won't know because you aren't there to see them busy. Still, I can't complain as I've not been to a club in ages. | |

I know. This IS part of my dilemma. If I don't go then I'm contributing to it not being busy, and yet, why should I hand over my entrance money to an event that no longer has any atmosphere and has the feeling that the organisers have given up on it? I worked hard (well sort of) for that money and I want it to pay for me to enjoy myself. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |
