Seriously a very dear friend of mine has complained that the standard of post and poster on the IC boards appears to be in decline and frankly, after giving it a bit of a look, I am inclined to agree.

I think it's time for an intervention.

Now by the normal run of things an intervention is a social unit of some kind rallying around an individual who is gone wrong, and trying to turn him or her away from a bad path. In this instance it'll have to be an individual trying to a turn social unit around, but hey, what would the world be without radical new ideas? Warsaw Airport is what.

So what needs to change? Well really if people just take these few simple pointers on board before posting, then I think this little change would ripple out and fix most everything.

Firstly, humour. If you are attempting to post something funny you should ask yourself before posting, am I remarkably funny? I use the term remarkably funny because it is the easiest subjective term to qualify. If somebody has remarked that you are funny, bingo, you are remarkably funny. Note that this does not include people pointing at you and laughing in the street, or comments pertaining to your personal odours or the way you look at women. If you are not remarkably funny, don't try to post something funny. Just don't. It will not end well for you.

Secondly cliques. The internet is not a biker bar. The rule all on one and one on all does not apply. If somebody is having a bit of the verbals with your bestest pal let it go. Nothing is more boring than a choir of people making the exact same point to the exact same troll. And you know it'll be a troll that started it.

Thirdly bullshit. Ask yourself before you post your post, does it contain any newfangled terms for people located at some point or other on the pansexual spectrum? If it does, delete it, your post is almost certain to be bullshit. Equally does your post contain a link to the Daily Mail, a comment about ethnic minorities getting some sort of unfair advantage or some sort of statement about how double-hard you are in real life? Again, stop, delete it. Daily Mail readers already read the Daily Mail so further links are superfluous, and everybody else will just think you're a lower middle class cumsock.

Fourthly, stupidity. Hand on heart people of IC, we all of us know if we're stupid or not. If you are stupid, help is at hand, ask and be enlightened. But for goodness sake don't try anything more than that. Don't attempt to express opinions, don't try to give advice and don't feed the trolls. Stupid people, often known as lolcows, are the prime prey of the troll. Please don't feel I'm deriding stupid people by the way, they can still make a valid contribution to the site by posting pictures of tits on their profile and shutting the fuck up.

Fifthly, new meat. There are two types of new poster on IC: Those who signed up a week ago and have a keen interest to get stuck into the BDSM community and have a host of questions and desires they want to explore. Secondly there are about ten people who keep getting banned and rejoining to troll with new accounts and characters. The first type of new poster is like Halley's Comet, if you see more than one or two of them in your entire life you're lucky. The second type makes themselves known by having some hot button issue to discuss within mere days of joining the site and the confidence to rage about it on what they would have us believe is an entirely new board for them. Don't be a lolcow, don't feed the trolls. Treat new posters as you would the Devil. Or Jebus. Whichever one of the two you like least basically.

So there you have it, the Doghouse Reilly five point guide to a happier IC. Follow these steps and the place will be better. Quieter perhaps, but better.

For the TLDR crowd, sod off and come back when you've had your Ritalin.

There is one further type of irritating person who posts on the IC boards but you seem to have missed it. It's the control freak!

I like web-logs that leave me a with a question, as yours did actually. I'd like to know more about 'cum-socks'. You drew on it to help form pictures in the mind of the more stupid, maybe that's why it stuck in mine.
