It's funny you should mention the blanket.... last night I decided it's time to put mine back on my bed again - I love getting into a cosy warm bed and, if a sub isn't here to warm up my bed, I need the electric blanket. "Truth is stranger than fiction."

I grew up without heating in the house or electric blankets, and can remember being very cold in bed as a kid. Whilst I do enjoy the blanket on very cold occasions it is a luxury when its -5 outside. I find that when I go to bed I heat up within a couple of minutes and act like a big hot water bottle radiating heat to whoever is there. I always seem to run 5 deg hotter than other people?? Is this due to a development of metabalisum as a child ?? You do wake up hungry as you have burnt body reserves overnight. An interesting mind is an open mind and an honest mind .

I also grew up without heating in the house and can remember there being ice on the inside of all the windows in the house! I have not yet turned my central heating on, though I've been sorely tempted, I'm just wearing extra layers to keep warm. When I was in bed, last night, I snuggled right down under the duvet but, I still had a few shivers and had to stay in one place to warm up one area to get benefit from the body heat I was generating... there is nothing wrong with using an electric blanket to add some extra comfort when trying to go to sleep. I don't know about anyone else but I find it very difficult to get off to sleep if I'm cold. I'm going to use my electric blanket tonight.

The very mention of the words "electric blanket" have sent me hurtling back through time to when I was a child, staying at my Grandparents' house. Going to bed was a real treat. A lovely memory, makes me feel all warm and fuzzy, although sad that they are not here any more. Thanks - I had completely forgotten that I had that memory, if you catch my drift. I believe in the certainty of chance.

Same age as you, Imagination. My poor mother got up early in the winter to light a fire for us to come down to - that was in the dining room, the rest of the house was freezing (yep, including writing your name in the frost INSIDE the windows). Never again, hence the lekkie blankie I'm a threadkiller, twisted threadkiller

Yep lots of memories, my mum used to do the same not a very big fire though as I remember. We also used to go to the beach in the morris 1000 and cut up the driftwood with a sack to carry and a hand saw . I still do it but by the trailer load now with a chain a saw!!! The electric blanket is a wonderfull invention especially if your feeling ill and very economical in the true sense it only heats what you need .So all you lovely people go cuddle up in the warm tonight !!
