Weight loss/Reductil update :) (8)

Before I begin, I would like to get something off my chest...if i got paid for the time I spent on this website, I would be very wealthy...I manage to fit so much into my day so meh!

Now that that's out of the way, get this fellow weightwatching fans...I have 1 stone and 10 pounds to loose before my body will no longer be in the overweight category. That is to say that I'm not gonna push myself to loose that much more weight (if any at all) once I reach the weight of 11 and a half stone.

It will be so so lovely to be confident that my weight is good and healthy. I am thrilled to think that the goal is in sight. Like I can smell it!

To be fair, I think the build up to xmas will make the whole thing more challenging and I do worry that now I'm living on my own again, I'm not eating as healthily as when I lived at home as in home but I'm not too worried because this is about getting healthy on a long term basis so it can be done :)

I am still on the 10mg Reductil tablets. I have a Drs review coming up soon and I wouldn't be suprised if he gave me the 15mg tablets what with the weight loss havign been more steady recently. But then again, everytime I've gone for my review he said that because I've lost somethin, that's enough progress as far as he's concerned not to require a stronger dose being introduced.

I can't remember what I was when I last blogged. I think off the top of my head I was 15stone around mid july, 13 stone and 10 pounds around the end of august and then somewhere along the line I find myself at 13 stone and 3 pounds at the start of October. As you can perhaps tell, I'm pleased to say that I don't way myself on such a regular basis as part of trying to be mentally as well as physically healthy :)

So yeah, it's so so so lovely to go about my day to day life without feeling so ill anymore. It is rare that I suffer IBS based symptoms now (I had them on a day to day basis at 15 stone). My back doesn't ache like it used to. I am able to do more physically demanding things (walking, going up stairs, running for a bus etc) without feeling so so ill afterwards. This feeling is sooooo nice :) I honestly had forgotten what it was to not feel so unhealthy everyday. Also, my legs no longer feel too heavy to carry and they don't rub together at the top.

I still don't go clothes shopping on such a large scale due to being too skint but the clothes I have bought have been from your everyday clothes shop rather then specialist ones...I am now interested to see if I can fit into a size 14 at a push (not that such a thing would really mean anything but it would be nice to know that I have more choice of clothes and indeed shops to find them in)

Yeah, mentally something really good is happening :) like I've even noticed that I am enjoying wearing makeup and dressing smarter again (I admit that due to feeling tired and underconfident at 15 stone, I must have looked pretty blummin rough on some days)

I'd be interested to know if my body would let me walk in heels once I've lost more weight but if not, I'm not going to be too harsh on myself as it's not a problem that is *that* strongly weight related.

So yeah, I just wanted to tell you all that I feel really really really fucking good in terms of the progress I am making. I can only be on Reductil for 1 year so that means that I have up until July 2010 with the help of these tablets....wow! that means that I have 9 months in which to loose weight whilst I have this medicinal help (not that I'm going to set myself deadlines...tis not productive or mentally healthy) and then after that, the goal is to be eating and exercising in a way that will ensure I stay at a healthy weight (I am exercising more now and I eat a bit more healthily although there's room for improvement but that's ok because I'm having undo a lot of long term bad habits which can't be done overnight...see, this is all about being realistic and nice to myself rather than beating myself up and setting unrealistic goals)

So yeah! top stuff!

I do hope that this weblog is inspiring and educational to anyone who reads down this far. It's important to me to tell you how I'm doing because after many obsticles in my relationship with being healthy, if I can do it, so can you :)

Ooh and just to add, do I feel more attractive now I'm loosing weight? My honest answer is that I don't know. I think to be honest, I'm not too worried about how I look as long as I have the confidence to make the best of myself. Confidence is worth far more than any sort of assumed perfection me thinks :) So yeah I still hold dear the idea that if anybody finds me attractive in any capacity, it's a far bigger compliment that who I am inside blows their mind more than what I am on the outside :)

Laura :)xx

Well done! Heard/read about nasty side effects with this stuff though, they seem worse than being overweight in some cases. What's your experience?

Firstly to the OP, well done!!

I've taken Reductil, it was a bout 5 years ago. It started off fine but after a month or so i started to get really bad headaches. The doc took me straight off of them. They work on the part of the brain that is right next to the part that controls your blood pressure. I could have died apparently. Was a bit scary.

I'm so fucking fabulous, i piss glitter. :-D

Thats a brilliant result - congratulations

However a note of caution on Reductil - I started a course, took the first tablet and had an extremely bad reaction to it. I couldnt stand up it was like being totally drunk. I had massive mood swings from laughing like a hyena to crying my eyes out uncontrollably. I couldnt see - I had an horrific headache. It was a terrifying experience!

Apparently some who take this drug do have an adverse reaction - I was one of those people and it took only one tablet - the effects of which lasted five days

Well done you, its a great feeling.

I had great success with Reductil about 5 yrs ago and lost and amazing 5st in 6 months. When I came off them i gradually put it all back on and more over the next 2 years. It would appear that for an intelligent person I have very little common sense and will power! My advice is keep going to your Dr or practice nurse every few weeks when you come off them so that they can keep and eye on you and keep you on the straight and narrow. Good luck on the run up to Christmas!

thanks people :)

the side effect can range from none to very much so.

The first week or so was hard as i physically struggled to eat even though I really did want to through feeling so exhausted (i was not eating enough that week but I just went along with it to see where it went)

I now eat anything between 1200-2000cals a day (maybe 2500 on a bad day eek)...I am now aiming towards aquiring that intake through better eating but I'm not sure how to do it (like for eg ill still eat naughty things but much less of them)...i eat vitamin tablets and glucoze tablets because I find it hard to eat fruit...but again, I know that's not ideal so tis summat i'm working on.

I never had headaches on account of when I was at my biggest, the headaches I had were so huge (as was the feeling tired)...so nothing has been as bad as that even on reductil...on the whole I feel a lot better in that respect.

I did have the tummy aches etc in the first 1-2 months or so but i'm fine now and again, twas worth it considering that now I don't have the IBS symptoms that I did at 15 stone.

I did feel down in the early days of the tablets but actually, I think this was more on account of other factors than the tablet itself.

So yeah, I'm glad I've stuck with them as the side effects have pretty much gone now...ah yeah, they can promote insomnia but I have always been quite noctural anyways lol :)

so yeah good stuff :)

I'm sorry to hear about some of the adverse reactions desribed here...they sound much worse than what i've had so i feel so lucky as i really do think these tablets were a last resort for me...like without them i couldn't have got this far, even over a longer timespan

wishing you all the best of luck with your own goals and thanks ever so muchly for all support and advice so far :)

:)xx

It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice :)xx
