Sex... We can't let kids see that! Only put it on TV after 9pm! No problem!
Murder... Oh, that's fine. Stick it on TV at lunchtimes!
WaterShed.. Water bunch of bollocks!
Basically, what the broadcasting complaints commission is saying is.. "Kids, murdering is ok, but don't have sex!"
WTF!
| The attitudes to sex and violence in society have always been a farce.
Sex in the media is usually related to in a narrow range:
Sexualised teens on pop videos.
Both continue to distort peoples ideas of their sexuality and body image. So women have to be super thin and always sexually available. Men have to be priapic and ready to fuck all that moves. These attitudes are prevalent in most young people
But the rest of the media focuses on making sex dirty and sexuality something to feel guilty about. Just ask any friend/relative what they think about bdsm or any kind of sexual variation from a man and woman fumbling on a Friday night.
In Hollywood violence has sold I.e. We will sell what we get away with
and they can't get away with sex.
If we (society) ever became open about sex then the advertising industry would have to start looking for a new idea on how to sell shit.
