The short and blunt answer is "Do your fucking research", and do it properly. Its not that difficult, there are people on here with Science degrees who know how to handle Statistics properly and are willing to help, how difficult is it to open a thread asking for volunteers rather than some kind of recruitment by Cronnieism?. How hard is it to source information from the source rather than playing chinese whispers on public forums.

From what I gather speaking to a few people about this forum is that its gone from something usefull to assist BDSMers in general to something people lever away from themselves with Barge poles.

This isn't aimed just at De, she cant be expected to do all things on her own, if shes taking advice from others I think she needs some fresh faces who have their heads screwed on. Theres plent of people on here who love the drama of it all and wont know how well an issue is "nailed together".

I have to admit I don't consider myself a participant in the more edgier aspects of BDSM. But I never thought I would be risking my professional standing by attending a munch as was suggested on another thread.

Are you saying that WE as bdsmers should do our research (about the discrimiation that we are likely to encounter) before talking about stuff on the activism board?

or are you saying that members of the general public (inclusing those in government and media etc) who discriminate against bdsmers should do their research?

To live in a state of ignorance would be bliss but I'm glad that I read the activism boards because I do think that they largely empower people with knowledge that they may struggle to acquire elsewhere

I can see your upset a bit for whatever reason. So for whatever reason you should be able to voice your opinions freely without fear of flame baiting and trolling and so on.

I think it is a good idea on the whole.

A good example of this was at my entrace exam for uni where we had to creat 4 squares each member of the group got given an evelope and told to open it at the begining of the test.

Now I dont want to tell you the exam itself or its outcome but I will tell you the result for obvious reasons.

It transpires that the group as a whole is only abale to complete the task each person has somthing to contribute even if it seem small and insignificant it is important to being able to complete the test.

Now, I take a lot of flack from people because of poor spelling and gramma and that is thier problem not mine ive been on the internet for a few years now im used to last resort english lessons when people have nothing better to say. and I get help with it from the appropriate educational authorites who help me with this problem.

But I dgres so lets stay on topic shall we.

It is up to the individual who it is pertenent too to use what information they find nessary to form thier view. nobody can build up a complete picture not being aware of all the facts and arguments and opionions on all sides.

There a much better resorces than an internt forum for these matters but if somone is going to ask then expect in this day and age of 2pence opions for there to be many and varied.

it comes down to the person in the end who decides and noone else. all anyone can do, the best they can do is to tell it how they see it and let the person who it is relevant to make up thier mind on how to proceed.

Just because somone has majority vote does not make the automatically infallable nor does it give them the right to impose any such view on another in anyway, there is no perfect argument.

In fact what it comes down to in a battle of words which is unfortunatly what it has been reduced to from a simple advie thread is an attack on language which somone like me would lose and then of course the ever increasin holier than thou argument of I HAVE DEGREE I KNOW BEST OBVIOSLY UG UG cave man style.

we are no near to finding a solution to this now or then and the whole point of that thread from what I could see was trying to understand circumstances which in most cases poeple misunderstand or misinterperate for what ever reason.

To help with what exactley, blurting out speculative threads and jumping to conclusions?

Does CAAN have any PR channels where ideas can be cross-checked before just throwing them into the bear pit of public debate?

Sloppy, unfocussed and disorganised is the impression i get.

I dont want to join CAAN and tell them what to do, i would hope they get enough feedback from here to re-alise that objectives aside they come across totally out of sync.

My experience (and of my BDSM friends as well) is that the "general public" (in this case people me and my friends know plus a few add ons)don't find it abhorrent - they may find it out of their comfort zone and may not want to hear the detail but, generally, they are happy to get on with their lives and leave us to get on with ours....
