And today was one of those days.

That story about the woman that killed herself and her disabled daughter because of persistant bullying....over 7 years. That poor woman must've been absolutely at the end of her tether....at breaking point....did the little bastards have no heart at all? What turns out people like that?

I don't really have the answer to that either. Although I do think it has something to do with young people needing to feel they 'belong' & feel accepted & significant somewhere, and if that somewhere in a nasty, viscious gang then that's where they'll go if there isn't a more attractive alternative.

I am disgusted that this lady & her daughter could be so failed by our so called caring society. Why the heck can't there be a more integrated approach between agencies. How hard can it be!!

Stop the benefits culture and if they had to have a job like the rest of us they wouldn't have the time to act like ferral animals

This death highlights a common problem, people with disabilities and in particular learning disabililties are targetted for abuse, society is disgraceful in its attitude and lack of support for them. I think the government needs to imprison the bastards who are seen to be targetting the vulnerable.

I dont know either, bullying is such an awfull thing to do. I was always the bullied but it was something that I only had to suffer for the first 12 years in school.

Why do people bully? I dont know - perhaps they think that it is a game and is fun for them and how they get their kicks.

Perhaps they do not think that their words and actions have a serious impact on peoples lives. I dont know the amount of times I considered suicide over bullies!

It should make people aware that calling people names and taking the piss constanctly does effect other people - It is not a game that should be played.

Most people grow out their bullying nature, but some others dont. They think it is fun but dont look at the bigger picture.

Some also come on IC and do a bit of it as well - but thats a different story !

Its very sad

The saddest thing is that the police are saying it is not their role to deal with this sort of incident, they want it to become the responsibility of local authorities.

Either way, there will be more people driven to desperation or killed when they try to remonstrate with the bullies.

There are no easy answers, but there have to be some changes.

While the parents of each generation has had concerns about their ability to become leaders of subsequent generations, it is starting to become a real concern.

It's not just long haired yobs, too much brylcream, weird clothes, music etc.

We have a family locally and they let the children run riot. We asked nicely initially. Then there have been a few blazing rows and now everyone is logging all the incidents.

But as a result the family will just be made homeless. That will not deal with the poor parenting skills and the lifestyle the boys have already started to take on as theirs.

Agreed, but I'm not a native and don't want to appear to be simply critical of what happens in this country as to be honest, it could happen just about anywhere.

i dont think its about being native at all! its about being prepared to contribute to a society, in some shape or form...these vile children have effectively taken a life by driving a woman to breaking point, for fun....where were their parents in this? where are the basic levels of respect and compassion for a woamn with an already difficult life?

i agree, give them enough work to keep them out of trouble, and dont give them any benefit if they arent prepared to take it

Edited to add - i do belive people who genuinley need help should get help, i am not talking about the many people who cant work, or cant find work in this economy - i am talking about the group of individuals who feel that they are owed, and take take take from society.

Well as there are 2.5 million officially unemployed and 8 million of working age not in work this 'solution' will result in millions of hungry and homeless people who will be a lot more troublesome to say the least. Kneejerk 'answers' may satisfy those that like to 'economise on their thought' but they cannot be treated seriously.

Bullies do what they do to hide their own well known inadaquacies. They have to be publicly exposed and made to burn in the shame of society's disapproval.

While their 'society' of peers continue to approve and applaud (hence the wearing of ASBOs as a trophy), there is no end to it.

It has been wittily remarked that 'children are nasty, brutish and short'. We know that, from the earliest age, children need leadership and love to direct their sense of right and wrong.

To perversely encourage the torment of people unable to defend themselves is the greater crime and I would like to see the parents of these little brutes gaoled after their viper's spawn have been taken into administrative care.

Another friend remarked that 'the parents of some children should be drowned at birth'. Today I am sharing that sentiment.

It sickens me to think what this woman suffered. I don't know if I have missed certain, more in depth news reports, but I have yet to see members of her closest community say how much they all did to rally round and support this woman and try to deter the bullies. Please correct me if I am wrong on this, as I say, I may have missed more in depth news reports.

Without wanting to defend anyone, I don't think any bully truly knows the extent of the suffering their actions create. I was once bullied mercilessly at school but, hand on my heart, I know not one of those bullies wanted me dead. They would have been devestated to find out their actions forced my hand at suicide. What's the answer? Things may have gone so far in our society that there isn't one...
