Well the tomato plants in the garden rotted and died ![]()
The marrow thingy is still romping away but I think my landlord wants to keep the fruits for himself...
Also my mushroom kit is showing signs of life but in the form of white mould all over the top of the soil layer... is this normal? Will I get mushrooms soon? I was expecting them to just pop up mushroom shaped without further prelude.

Does having raised mushroomettes qualify you as a single mum? Do you get child benefit allowance? Is it paid in compost? Sorry to hear about the 'matoes. The @Fetish_Photo_Album A free and private flickr group for IC members to share dirty pictures!

white stuff is mycelia, shrooms should follow as they are the fruiting bodies, usually the mycelia stay below the casing soil though, they do need to be in a cooler draughtier environemnt after a while to shock them into fruiting.
Oh and commiserations on the loss of the tomato plants, I lost 42 to blight just as they had set a huge amount of fruit!!!. Edited 21 Sep 09, 7:56 PM by jenevieve

I was hoping for a large famiily Strappy... but I'm not sure if I shall succeed in successfully raising even one little 'shroomette. I've moved the kit into the cellar now, it's usually nice and cool down there, I hope I'll get some proper shrooms soon... Watch this space "Quit? Best to cover the mycelia with some damp-ish but NOT wet compost and shrooms should pop through the top layer. Keep shrooms at a cool constant temp in basement is the best. Also make sure there is some ventilation but no drafts. I lift the lid on my shrooms with wooden sticks, slightly longer than toothpick size. Good luck! ETA should see white spots on the surface but not thready/mouldy looking stuff, that needs covering with compost. White dots = good = baby shrooms.
