We decided a few months back to 'do the deed' and that what we actually wanted was a day unique and precious to us. We wanted a marriage and not a wedding. A 'wedding', in our minds, simply meant stress, fuss, expense and expectations -none of which we wanted!
We wanted a ceremony that was both legally binding and tailored to us, something that combined both the old and the new, that fitted with our belief system, and take place in a venue that was special to us both.
We are very lucky that in Scotland the law accepts Pagan weddings as legal religious ceremonies and that a religious ceremony can take place anywhere.
So early summer we found a wonderful Pagan celebrant to perform the ceremony, obtained permission from the landowner of our special place, and filled out the necessary legal paperwork. The colour theme was set, the ceremony words pondered over, the cake contemplated and the two witnesses chosen – my two daughters, with younger one's partner coming along as photographer. We told nobody else ![]()
Although we wanted to avoid stress, a little could not be helped! I chose to make my own cake and do the flowers, so it is my own fault! Oh and don't mention me checking the long range weather forecast every day for three weeks or the waking up three days ago with two insect bites on my face!!
But the day was totally perfect. The weather was glorious, the ceremony incredibly moving – not a dry eye in the house!
And we could not be any happier
