Do many people on the BDSm scene have a chip on their shoulder? Or are well balanced with a chip on both? My opinion is that people rather than a broad distribution tend towards exstremes. Either are very forgiving or will bare a bitter grudge for all time. With a smaller cohort in between. This is assuming an average slight rather a henious crime but again this can vary from individual to individual. Do you agree or whats your take?

I think its a people thing not a pervy people thing.. some people crack on with life, others are pissed off at life. I am unique, amazing, an individual and special!!! (just like every other fucker on the planet) Edited 26 Aug 09, 1:52 PM by Mel_SnM

I think it maybe an online thing rather that a general people thing, in-so-much as any polarisation (between easy going and intolerant) tends to be exaggerated. BDSM has more of a cross-over between in the flesh and online, which maybe camouflages this somewhat. - Chris

It's difficult to tell who actually bears grudges unless you observe their behaviour over a period of time. If it's the 'unnatural sex' threads that have prompted your question, then don't forget that most of the 'contributions' are not driven by malice, but by genuine curiosity mixed with maybe just a hint of frustration. I'm probably as guilty as anyone of behaving like a 'dog with a bone' when it comes to these little online misunderstandings, but that doesn't mean I hold any grudges. It fascinates me the way other people see the world differently, and I where there is disagreement, I like to get to the bottom of it, and I genuinely enjoy the process of the debate.
However, for all my online 'tiffs', I don't actually actively dislike anyone on IC. (Although that doesn't mean I'd necessarily let them look after my hypothetical kids. I can only speak for myself, but I guess there may be others with a similar outlook. In fact, I find that a good 80-90% of people I've had a disagreement with will be more than amenable to some friendlier exchanges afterwards. The beatings will continue until morale improves.

What is wrong with having a chip on one's shoulder? And where is the connection to 'extremes'? Having a beligerent or bellicose attitude doesn't make one extreme in my opinion. Your Captain Jack

Judging from the quality of language and incisive comment on IC I'd guess that subscribers are not too dim or narrow-minded. Despite what I said elsewhere about hens clucking and vitriol I wouldn't say that I've found too much bigotry or 'chippiness'. Where a point is raised it seems that, on the whole, it's answered at face value and where the argument continues intelligently there are few personal digs. The only turn-off is where this breaks down and rather than addressing the issue raised correspondents fall back onto insults. It's a shame cos one can't have a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent. If wishes were horses I'd dine like the French.

No it wasn't. Whats under pinning my view is that BDSM contains more passionate hedonistic types for starters. They would imo have more of a grasp on this or would be less able to put aside strong feelings. Maybe i'm confusing issues a bit.

Not everyone on here progresses beyond keyboard meetings. Science, the only religion that works even if you don't believe in it.

Can't remember who said it, but someone once remarked 'Never argue with an idiot, for the first requirement is that you lower yourself to their level, where they have the advantage of greater experience'. Good to see you about, Alex! Why poison your liver when I could eat it for you? |
