I'm looking for a wooden paddle to give as a gift but just can't seem to find what I'm looking for but everything I've seen has been too short and thick. My friend would appreciate something with some 'swing and sting' rather than blunt thuddy impact. I'm looking for approx ~450mm x 70mm x 6-8mm. Can anyone recommend a suitable supplier Non science will be regarded as quackery until proved otherwise

Try www.SDPaddles.co.uk Have had a couple of paddles from David and they are excellent quality. The ones i bought for Master are probably the exact opposite of the type you are looking for, but there is a good selection, and i'm sure you'll find something there!!

In common with a couple of other makers, no dimensions are given! For my own use, I'd take a chance but since this is for a gift, I'd prefer not to chance it.

If you're gonna be that picky about size then why not make your own? The timber and tools from a large DIY store wont break the bank and you will end up with exactly what you want. It might take a few attempts to get it right but you can also customize it with air holes or ribbon, even carve the persons name on it if you have the skill.

The size you mention, only 18 inches, is pretty close to a spatula that you can find in any decent village hardware shop. Probably get a couple of spoons too. and rubber bands and clips and .................

My local Ikea has a place where scrap wood is left for people to help themselves to. It's left over parts from their furniture, mostly MDF sheets, but there's all sorts of stuff there if you look carefully. I found a whole load of slats for a bed and they are just perfect for making paddles. The price is perfect too.

I can reccomend SD paddles too, have 1 of his tailor made for me plus a flogger, he will try to make one bespoke if you contact him he is very personable & tries to please his customers, least he did for me & even took the first one back because it wasnt quite right for me & redid it as I wanted. Go on give him a try atleast ask, what you got to lose? Graeme (no I dont work for him lol) At times I'd like to break you and drive you to your knees
At times I'd like to break through and hold you endlessly *Dan Hill*

Try a canoeing shoping, the smaller paddles for Canadian canoes would be perfect I'd imagine as the more modern designs are strong but with a shallow tip The first rule of Brat Club, we don't talk about Brat Club...

I'm sure anyone who makes padles and the like would be happy to make to your spec, I know I do. I started making stuff coz I'm too tight to buy from others and I often found i could do better than I could afford anyway. If you can't find what you want or somebody to make what you want then the diy option is always there |
