I had the most amazing weekend.

I spent Saturday at Bridgewood, which is a private wood owned by Tanos.

I was happily building my first ever piece of kit. It was a fab day.

We used pieces of wood that Tanos had cut from the clearing of the land so that when it did go back into the wood it looked like it belonged there, because of course it does.

The sun was shining and we worked for most of the morning, finding the right bits of wood, I was taught to tie the wood together and slowely but surely it too shape.

After a short break to eat nibbles and fire cooked jacket potatoes we tidied up and trecked off to find a nice spot for our finished creation.

It didn't take long and having found a good spot we decided it was too hot to wear shirts. How often do the girls get to take their top off too when they are hot?

I was a happy camper in walking boots, jeans and a collar trundling through the wood with our piece of kit. After a short stint of clearing so that there was enough room to use the kit, we stood back to admire how natural it looked.

Of course having built the kit we needed to quality check it, for health and safety reasons of course. The wood has an abundance of material within easy reach to use and abuse. I had some lovely marks from the leaves on branches, there were also some great canes easily made.

The kit stood up to the rigours of play (of course) and felt utterly perfect. I was very pleased with myself.

We spent a wonderful day in stunning surroundings and it felt almost as if we had given back a bit from the beauty that we took from the wood. I think we gave due respect to both the wood that we used and the wood that we were placing it in which made the whole thing even better.

For the first time since very early on secondary school I made something from wood. I had no idea that it could be so much fun!!

Built it, sited it, played on it, all in a few hours and it never left the wood :). It was a really good day and you were a very capable 'bound apprentice' .

The older I get the more I recall.........how little I knew when I knew it all.
