Some day my prince will come...
I've (ironically for the insomniac) been having a Sleeping Beauty marathon tonight, and yes, to all the outraged Disney fanatics that I KNOW are out there, I know the lyric is from Snow White but I thought it'd be a little creepy to open with "I know you..." at this time of night.
I got the Anne Rice Sleeping Beauty series for my birthday from a kindly gentleman here so I've been fawning over the pages before bed each night and how terrifically perfect would that be?
A prince to come whisk me away across the land - not TOO far out of the M25, of course, I get twitchy leaving the borders of my beloved city into the barrens beyond where there's real grass and mud and dirty animals and silence everywhere, so across the Central Line so I'm far enough from my parents I don't feel obliged to visit EVERY weekend would suffice. And he'd take me to a beautiful castle to rule over a kingdom and over me, his cherished, pampered, protected, loved possession.
He'd subject me to terrible torturous pleasures whilst holding me safe in the palm of his hand and I'd hasten to his every whim and use every skill I had to please him to make him feel he had the most perfect princess in the land. I'd play him music and learn to dance for him, I'd make sure I knew every favourite of his so that I could give it to him as often as possible, I'd be devoted and loyal and caring and listen to him when he needed me and lend him my thoughts and opinions when I could.
We'd learn to horseride (around Hyde Park so I can still hear the comforting hum of traffic) and have elaborate tea parties with tables spread with tea cups of all different kinds and cakes as big as tyres and tiny little decorated cupcakes dotted around like tasty glitter, and when he'd take me out we'd dress all lavish and extravagant so that he can be proud and show off his princess and have just the right amount of jealousy that no other man can touch me, but I might be able to get a bit of girl-fondling in. And just the right amount of jealousy that if I got too proud or spoilt he'd have no problem sharing me mercilessly with his friends to remind me of my place. Of course, he'd build me up just to emphasise this degredation when it came around, for his own amusement.
And I'd be his princess and he'd be my prince and my family and friends would all love and admire him.
So after I near burnt out my magic wand (it seemed thematic and that was the ONLY reason I couldn't resist using it) I watched the actual Sleeping Beauty Disney film and now I'm all broody for my prince. And all our future babies. And the pet wolfy-type dog we'll have.
The way we did once upon a dream! ![]()
That's it, I'm heading up to wander Regents Park singing classical love songs and charming small animals tomorrow afternoon.

'Course there's also the possibility that you'll end up with Shrek & have an annoying talking donkey & a randy dragon for pets...

I like the bit that reminds me of the Mad Hatters Tea Party in Alice in Wonderland! *starts singing Happy Unbirthday* "While the truncheon may be used in lieu of conversation, words will always retain their power. Words offer the means to meaning, and for those who will listen, the enunciation of truth. And the truth is, there is something terribly wrong with this country, isn't there?"

Well I never came across those particular books myself, but I did read her witches series. There were some very evocative characters in those books too. I remember dreaming about the female lead for months afterwards.
Well I certainly live well outside of that zone in a quiet village, but seeing as I'm on the connecting road to the next village it sometimes seems more like the M25 than I would like. We do have real grass and mud and dirty animals though.
Well for someone who has dreams, fantasies or aspirations of being someone's princess, you certainly look more the part that about a million others. I am sure you would make your prince very happy indeed. It's just a shame all this makes me feel rather un-princely! I hope that soon your inner insomniac goes on holiday and leaves you in peace to get a good night's sleep! There are three sides to every story: yours, mine and the truth.

I do have a bit of an Alice in Wonderland fascination too... I think I'll start a teacup collection when I next have money to spare! Check out @The_Art_Forum

They're good for bedtime reading, but they do lack an interesting storyline. It could be that I'm just too used to action and adventure stories though.
Aww, thank you. You can be a prince in the countryside, lots of princes live in the countryside. There's just no way I'm leaving my tube! It's rather me not being very princessy! Check out @The_Art_Forum

I read the second of those books at a very impressionable age. Alas, Once Upon A Dream reminds me too much of my ex creature as we used to dance to it cause he used to do ballet. Love it but it makes me so sad.

My Princess is impressively prescient. We can get on the horse riding next summer Theodore Bikel: "All too often arrogance accompanies strength, and we must never assume that justice is on the side of the strong. The use of power must always be accompanied by moral choice." |
