I used to be domain co-odinator for Vampire the Requiem. Lots of kinky people like VtR lol. "You're going to massage me, but first I'm going to bind you"

Live action on the tabletop sounds perfectly kinky to me.... and also reminiscent of what I understand is one of the key scenes (not seen it myself) in The Postman Always Rings Twice... English

Indeed they do... Only a rumour, but I heard that half the V:tM LARPS in some part of America were more about costuming and fetish than actual LARP. 'Domain co-ordinator'? As in internet servers, or as in vampiric territory?

I kept the accounts for the domain, recruited new people, made sure everyone paid up etc etc. Domain being spread over two counties. The building of the character, and their costumes was a big part of the fun.

Sounds awesome. You still play in some form I assume? Definately agree building a character is a big part of it - I've yet to play in a Vampire game that truely understands the importance of exploring the character's internal feelings and immediate world.

Costume is pretty much a pre-requisite to LARP as it really wouldn't work without at least some effort being made. I doubt there's an increased likelihood of roleplayers of any kind (or geeks) being into BDSM or fetish. As for that art, well, most people buying White Wolfs products would have been teenage boys or men in their twenties. By definition they're geeks so not likely (particularly in the US) to be mingling with the abecrombie and finch crowd. If you're selling to men but particularly teenagers, certain types of artwork will be a big help. If you're trying to make vampires sexy, cool, interesting and inhuman they need to stand out as well. Most vampiric fiction features them treating humans as pets, food, victims or inferior beings. I certainly wouldn't assume that geeks are a more likely bet if you're hoping to meet people who are kinky. Personally though, I find geeks of one type or another far more interesting than other people.

I was a scout and a scout leader... I did LARP for a while and played a drow high priestess, you can't get much more kinky, matriarchal hierarchy and i got to wear a zentai suit! "that artwork is rather dark" "well yes, I wasn't exactly expecting winnie the pooh!"

True enough. However, roleplayers engage in a non-mainstream activity that encourages self-exploration (and getting into the heads of people different to yourself) and allows for 'safe' self-expression through the mouth-piece of a character. Accordingly role-players (ones past their teens, at least) tend to form social groups that are diverse, supportive and open. I've found my role-playing friends to be far more likely to TELL ME that they are into BDSM or fetish than my other friends, but I wouldn't assume that reflects an increased interest. |
