In the Greek mythology, there are a few key things...
Firstly before there were the gods, there was Gaia and Ouranus. They were the mother and father of the Titans, despotic rulers of creation.
In turn they were overthrown by Zeus, who imprisoned most of the Titans, but spared Gaia as a gaoler of her children. Zeus in turn created his children and they created the humans.
The original humans were not as we are; they were barrel bodied beings with two pairs of arms and legs, two heads and two minds but a single spirit - the children of the Selene, the Moon godess, were the conjunction of male and female, the children of the Titan Gaia, the Earth godess, were as two females, and finally the children of Apollo, the Sun god, were as paired males.
As time went on, these creatures grew in their hubris, and so, Zeus, as leader of the gods, called forth a congress of the parents of mankind, to hold them answerable for this lack of grace. The gods made their excuses and in turn held the people below responsible, and so Zeus chose to cut them down; to split them in two.
And so, humanity was split into the male and female, two legs, two arms, one head, but only half a soul. These souls were scattered across the world, and Zeus knew that if many of them managed to rejoin then the fall of the gods was at hand.
Upon the death of each person their soul returns to Gaia, to be reborn in a new body, and Gaia - still bitter about the imprisonment of her children, the Titans, decided to rebirth the souls at times close together to give them each the chance to find one another, and to come together, and hence bring forth the fall of the gods.
This is what we call the search for our soul mates. The one with which we come together and find the complementary, other half, and create a single whole.

What do you do when you and your soul mate are born at slightly odd times, you meet them, fall in love, and then they die?  Wait til the next life? But yes, you two are well suited, and am sure you will be back together soon. I didn't realise it'd been 6 months since I introduced you already! | |

actually slightly more than 6 months in that regard; this is just since that big msn conversation we had back on the sat night/sun morning on teh 31st Jan/1st Feb...........
not like i keep track of these things
but yes; this was part of Gaia's plot; everytime a couple would fall in love, the gods' power would becomes slightly lessened... shallow and bitter, but still Warning - posts may be soppy due to the fact that the poster is in love with his boy... Edited 3 Aug 09, 8:20 AM by konij_ntje | |
