The taking away of sight is a very powerful internalisation that can be used to enhance play. The blindfold is the obvious way to do it, but the Mindfold is far more effective, a total blackout, no peeking, no glimpses, no differences if your eyes are open or closed. But it's neither sinister nor intrusive, it's not an insult to the body or the senses. It's easy to dislodge, by accident, or wilfully. And it covers much of the face, which may be a visual effect that fits into the scene, but often isn't. Blacked-out sunglasses have similar limitations, but they are good for outdoor public play. Taping or using eyelash glue to keep the eyes closed is far more of an insult or intrusion, is less easy to dislodge, so a simple tie of the hands makes sight impossible for the sub to even think of restoring. It covers less of the face and makes the sub look more vulnerable. But a female sub is going to be concerned at the possible loss of eyelashes and the stretching of the delicate eyelids on removal, which is not part of the scene (no, guys, its not!!). So my thoughts have turned to obscure contact lenses. These seem to be a good solution: very sinister and invasive (at least, to a sub who doesn't wear contacts... and remember, having them fitted while tied and subbed is completely different from applying them yourself), cannot be removed with the hands tied (I don't think so, anyway, but I don't use them so I'm not sure) and give a very vulnerable look to the sub, especially if instructed to keep her eyes open. A quick web search, though, shows them to be very expensive: a few tens of pounds for various party type lenses, but a few hundreds of pounds for obscure lenses. So, can anybody share their experience of sight deprivation using techniques other than blindfolding? Has anybody used blind contacts or know where to get them at a sensible price? And what are the risk / H+S issues of glueing, taping and lensing? Penny x |

I'd never put contacts into someone else's eyes. As a contact lens wearer myself it is too bloomin' risky, sight is too important to mess around with someone else's eyes. Putting lenses in is a skill in itself (lenses can end up inside out), then the obvious hygiene implications, not scratching their cornea with your own fingernails and the lens, ensuring there is no debris under the lens, and then for a new wearer the eyes stream for ages as they (the eyes) try to dislodge the foreign body. You could try those butterfly stitches that they use to keep the eyes closed during operations maybe?
