So I am currently holed up on quarantine with swine flu, popping tamiflu, whinging lots and hating being parted from my nearest and dearest. I can't even kiss or hug my children!!
As you can imagine I have been feeling pretty rubbish and sorry for myself. This morning though has been pretty good despite the quarantine. Firstly my boy sent me some beautiful flowers to brighten my sick bed. Secondly I got a letter telling me I have an interview for a role I badly want, it will basically fund me in nursing whilst working in the community nursing team. Finally I heard my youngest shouting through the door "Love you mummy, get sell woon!"
SO I now have something to do whilst in quarantine...prepare for my interview! eek

Err I am not a community nurse, as I said the role (if I get it) will fund me through training. I am simply following the advice my Dr gave which is take the meds and be in quarantine for 5 days. | ||

Oseltamivir (Tamiflu) can be used (if given early enough) to prevent people getting influenza if exposed ('prophylaxis' role). Whilst the initial 'containment' phase of wide-spread use of Tamiflu for prophylaxis for most (?all) contacts of cases has passed, prophylaxis is still being used for 'high-risk' group contacts of presumed (for the community, as most community cases are no longer tested) or confirmed (where testing for swine flu has been performed) cases of swine flu. Oseltamivir can also be used in a treatment role, to limit the severity of the disease and decrease the duration of illness (and the duration of infectivity). This is especially important for people in a 'high-risk' group. Are you suggesting these people shouldn't be taking Oseltamivir if they are offered it by a health care professional, and if so, on what basis?. Whilst there has now been documented Oseltamivir resistance for 'swine flu', the majority of circulating swine flu virus remains sensitive to Tamiflu. On what grounds are you saying that Tamiflu is ineffective for 'swine flu'? (a.k.a. Swine-lineage Human Influenza A, H1N1).
Again, where do you get the idea that people are contagious once they have recovered?. This is a possibility for those whose immune systems are 'knackered' (as you have phrased it), but for people whose immune systems are normal, they are not infectious once they no longer have symptoms. If you believe me to be wrong on any of these points, I'll be happy to point you to resources backing up what I'm saying. If you believe you are correct on the points I've challenged you on - cites please. Cheers, Badg1.
