Yes! I'm very much into Korean films too. Just watched the K-horror version of 'Hansel and Gretel', very interesting. Dark Water I liked (that elevator scene!).

Favourites; Ichi (for the comedy gore moments), Infection (stunning use of colour and really great atmosphere, although the plot was a bit squiffy), did like Audition (though slow-starting, worth it for the end), The Eye (some great moments, but lacking in other places), Wishing Steps.

Love Battle Royale, though not technically horror. Also 'Perfect Blue', sort of psych-horror anime, is very very good.

Don't know if any of you are gamers too, but 'Forbidden Siren' has a particularly fantastic J-horror vibe, and is much scarier than any film!

F*** The Eye. Amazing. And Wishing Stairs I think it is. Part of a spooky trilogy. Sorry getting all anal - metaphorically that is.

The poon won't come flocking if you sit and do nothing.

You mentioned the G-word. :)

I've not checked that one out. I was never a big PS2 fan although it did have a lot of Japanese games that were full on scary by all accounts.

My scary list of games would be:

1. Alien vs Predator. No idea why but the first ever game in this franchise, when played as the Marine, is shit scary. I think because it is incredibly tough and unlike in most games the Aliens just would not stop coming for you. They just climbed out of their holes and went for you, even if you shot their legs off. Gave the game a real sense of impending doom. Especially as you could only save a few times. It was from the era when you couldn't just complete a game slowly death by death, checkpoint by checkpoint, you had to be awesome to complete AvP, and have balls of steel.

2. STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl. This game gave me nightmares. Seriously. There's this sort of hunched, tentacle faced baddie in it who lives in caves who my friends and I affectionately call "Mr Facerapeguy". When he turns nearly invisible all you can see are glowing eyes and then he rips you up. It also has packs of hounds, radiation, mutants, Russian dickheads with guns, all the worst elements of a night out in St Petersburg, except it's set in the Ukraine. It's a game of wide open spaces too, rather than linear progression, and you spend a lot of it at night, in the rain, being chased by monsters because you're out of ammo or lost your cool, or both.

3. FEAR. Somebody went and took the creepy young girl from Ringu and set her loose in a fairly by-the-numbers first person shooter. Provides a creepy sense of being haunted as you go through the game, as well as a few jump out of your skin while shitting yourself scares. Like the bit in the air vent. Ah nuts there I go again just thinking about it.

That's your geekery ration for tonight folks. Eat it. :)

All that is required for the triumph of evil is for Chuck Norris to change sides.

Think Whispering Corridors was the first and is very creepy. Ghostly Asian schoolgirls doesn't sound like a recipe for chills but these films rock.

Damn you dragging me into this!!! What's your fave Asian horrors?

Let's forget the Ring trilogy. Dark Water (not the remake obviously) Into The Mirror, Ichi, Oldboy (sort of horror, nah maybe not) hmmmmmm, will have a think about more.

Hmm still haven't seen Dark Water. Ring did definitely do it for me, though. Oh and Kagihara in Ichi is the one exception to my dislike of facial piercings, how can you not like a man who smokes through his cheeks.

Oddly enough Onibaba gets about 8th place on IMDB's top 250 horror films of all time. Never thought of it as horror, really, although it's disturbing.

It's a B&W samurai era movie about an old woman and her daughter who trap passing samurai in a pit, kill them and sell their armour in order to make ends meet.

Fine movie.

My non-asian favourites would probably be Angel Heart, The 9th Gate and The Hitcher, off the top of my head.

No I don't like them. I am a total wuss. I was even scared watching Shaun of the Dead. Nightmare on Elm Street was terrifying. I managed to watch Silence of the Lambs though, recently so clearly there has been some improvement.

someone after my own heart.

the scene from eastenders, when the girl found her mum, and was killed a minute later.
