So... Skin Two North has come and gone and what's the verdict?
IMNSHO the venue was good, lovely courtyard area, fab dance area, excellent 'social' room. The toilets were not even passable though, very grubby and little flies everywhere which I suspect were coming from the sanitary bins...not a nice thought. The dungeon needs a whole paragraph on its own and I will come to that later.
If you wanted to walk around all night in your rubber and PVC it was the event of the year, without a doubt. There were photographers taking pictures of the shiny people all night and plenty of them around, in fact it was a sea of shiny and I am sure those people walked away from last night's event very happy with all their needs and expectations met.
If you wanted to play you were sadly disappointed, the dungeon was cramped and overstocked with kit and people, absolutely no room to swing a cat. One of my friends accidently hit 3 passing people during play. Either they were not familiar with dungeon etiquette and hadn't quite worked out how to keep their eyes open for their own safety, or perhaps they had never set foot in a playspace before! A mixture of the two would be my best guess. But then this was not billed or advertised as a BDSM event and it was never going to be one.
All in all, we had a lovely night, but that was made by the company rather than the event. Lovely to see people I hadn't seen for a while and even more lovely to spend time with some very treasured friends.
To those who will invariably gripe about last night...remember that you went to a 'Rubber Ball' first and foremost, and it was exactly what it said on the tin.
Would we go again... yes we probably would, the shinies were nice to look at and we had a good night.
Well done to everyone involved, a great deal of hard work went into the night, Thank You for organising it.

We couldn't agree more with you Sweetie, we too had a lovely night, made special by the company of wonderfull friends, rather than the event. Although advertised as a Rubber Ball, it was advertised as a Rubber Ball " with a furnished and supervised dungeon " - play sadly, was near on impossible - no room to swing a cat let alone a flogger, with far to many people hanging around socialising and shopping, which sadly doesn't add to a floaty spacey play atmosphere. We did chat with a organiser/crew member who said that the after party was more play based..... but by 1/1.30 us old pair were too exhausted to find out. We were left with the impression that the Ball was a See and be Seen fabulous flamboyant social, kindalike a huge fetish wearing- munch/get together/catch up. The huge effort people had gone to with the outfits was outstanding, with so much creativity and originality on show.... it really was a pleasure to see so much individuality.
On the down side the bar downstairs ran out of bottled water and the toilets were awful all in all, we are glad we went, would we go again ? ... maybe...even probably, but with a few tweaks and a usable dungeon ~ 100% YES.
well done every one involved with organising the night, for all your efforts, and for being brave enough to bring a different type of event- up Norf and Lady Stardust sang her songs, of.....

I nad my friends had a great night, our only gripe were the bar prices! Amazing floor showm play room was brilliant, the courtyard a must as it was very humid inside, and it was great to touch base with some old friends. Never ever accused of knowingly ever doing anything nice!

Strange that, as a friend of mine who enquired about the after party was told there would be no kit there at all. And if you think about it logisticly it couldnt be done. To break down the kit there and transport it to a venue with no parking facilities unload and set up again. I dont think so, although there are those who went to the after party...perhaps I am wrong? We saw people there in streetwear, I was not really impressed with it having been to previous Skin Two events in London with magnificent outfits and and creations, outrageous make up and accessories... I was far from impressed... I don't think I'll waste my money and go again.. I saw the dungeon area, and it was a bit dark in there... you were invisible if you wore black!

I'm not sure I saw anyone in street wear other then those who were aprt of the skin two team (they had little badges hanging from their necks) and in all honesty with some of the running around they have to do then I don't blame them. I have never been to one in london but I have a suspcion that one up north was and is always going to have a different vibe, while there are some people that are outragous and extravagent, in general we are more down to earth bunch, we also on average don't earn as much money as people down south (yes I know it costs you guys more to live, but believe me, people doing my job in london get twice what I get paid up here, I am on minimum wage and I have a degree and experiance in my field) I can't afford a new outrageous outfit every time, yes I was wearing rubber but it was the same outfit I'd worn to lash the previous month (gasp shock horror woman wears fet outfit twice) Maybe next time I'll have saved up to buy a new outfit, but again it wouldn't be outrageous, it will be something that I can wear to any other club up north, cause I need to get more then one wear out of it "that artwork is rather dark" "well yes, I wasn't exactly expecting winnie the pooh!"

Ah, great, so I'm not the only one who swops and matches three or four pieces of fet gear around alternatively. Yes - hello we're back - and we're taking calls Now what was the question?

I commented on our arrival how we had to walk through the main downstairs room to get to the toilets to change. Felt pretty concious of having to do it too. I never saw anyone, other than badged crew, in street wear either. RD xx It is not what you say or do but the way you say or do it
