Got several nilla friends who live on canal barges permanently and they love it, even in winter. Its amazing hwo snug a good boat is, so you'll have fun old chap. Infact I am almost envious! Never ever accused of knowingly ever doing anything nice!

Got a friend who lives on a boat and another looking to buy one. It has pros and cons but looks incredibly fun - get a lot more living space for your money it seems but you cannot get a mortgage on it apparently. Good luck to you!
I wanna be great like Elvis, without the tassels!

Hehe. I have known a couple of people who have done it too. Kicked myself when I remembered it as an option.
I don't mind it a bit cold, but a wood burning stove and a dehumdifier should sort out the worst of the winter

Ta, yes, I wont be diving into this rashly - I will settle down to the slog of dotting the i's and crossing the t's to make sure I have no nasty suprises later.

My mother is in fact buying one right now. I spent alot of my childhood around the kennet and avon near Bath, so I knew loads of people on boats. Ive seen a few stripped out and utterly rebuilt, and using modern insulation materials, led lighting, lcd screens etc..... They have everything you could possibly want. In fact, 18 months ago I was in the same situation you are now, although I extended the lease on this 1 room grot box for a bit longer. I'm now buying a rather large ex MOD married quarters near my work. It's not the best but it's cheap, it's equity, and it's massive inside! Like you, it's the MINE, ALL MINE!! feeling that's important. Edited 3 Jul 09, 1:39 AM by revengingangel

My parents own a canal boat and their mooring states......NO HIPPY HUTCHES!! This seems to mean no pot plants, no decorative buckets, no bicycles on the roof, and it has to be kept tidy, clean and in good condition. Bloody canal gestapo, I think they might have banned noise after 6pm and farting on deck as well. remember folks......it's only kinky the first time

What a great idea! And it's so..... YOU! ~ If you must pick the lesser of two evils; choose the one you've never tried before. ~ |
