If IC had a killfile like newsgroups where you put people not worth bothering to read you would be in it. Doh! The usual example I hear is a mouse is not an elephant but in any case it is as irrelevant as your example.

The Admirable Crichton springs to mind. OK so in the OP's analogy the 'Dom' is alone. Why would that stop him, or me from building a habitation? A cave near water would be ideal. Would I be lonely? No, any bird latches onto the first thing it sees as its 'mother'. A parrot would be ideal, a cormerant even better (from a fishing point of view) either would be a pet. Is that not domination? Wild pigs mean piglets, again a pet (at least as intellegent as dogs). A hurricane / tsunami / volcanic eruption cannot be beaten. But, mankind has become the dominant lifeform on this planet by adapting behaviour to cope with nature, from the deserts of Australia and Africa, to the icy wastes of the polar regions. We as a species do dominate nature everyday. Its either that or roll over and die. S_C Owner and Builder of The Croppery Dungeon and Breakfast, on the sunny East Sussex coast. | ||

I'm afraid I can't agree with you there. I think TheFalconer is simply trying to point out that the debate has reached an impasse, having achieved nothing meaningful, simply because it boils down to your unusual interpretation of the word 'dom'. If his example seems irrelevant to you, then I suspect that may be down to the fact that you still don't appear to have grasped the fact that there's a gaping chasm between yours and everyone else's definition of the word.
