I may be alone in this, but I find that glammed up stuff leaves me cold. Does absolutely nowt for me. I don't care if Dita, or anyone else, has made a career from pouting at a camera, what I want to know is is she any good with rope, or with a cane in her hand? It's hippy logic, I guess, but I'll only respond to advertising which tries to present the truth, not make believe. Did a most enjoyable photoshoot t'other day, a real Mistress in her working dungeon, wearing the kit she wears in real session, with kit she uses day to day, not stuff shipped in just for the pics. OK we pick out the best images, where she's not blinking at the lights and all that, do minimal post production, and that's that, sorted. What you see is what you get. But then again personally, I find all the "real" shots of "real" people playing in "real" dungeons really boring to look at. I like photographs to be glammed up, made into a fantasy. I don't care if a model is good at using a cane on someone or can tie someone up, just if they look good in the picture. It just depends what sort of photography you're interested in. Take my stuff for example, my shot of a guy in a shower of an obvious example. How many guys do you know that shower in designer pants and a vest, while tensing and flexing all their muscles with their hair done? Not many. And pictures that are 'real' do not need to be bad! They don't have to be lacking in style or glamour either - if it is there to be photographed. If it there, the art is in capturing it, bringing that reality to life. There was a saying in advertising - if you can't sell the sausage, sell the sizzle! In other words, glam up a product which is poor in quality. Problem with that is you might trick people into buying that brand once, having made it look much better than it actually is, but if it tastes like shit, they won't buy it again. Shame these were for someone's website, I'm rather chuffed that I think I managed to show the Lady's real beauty and power. In her dungeon, in her working clothes. Some of the dungeons I've done shoots in are a bloody nightmare though! Some have been really cluttered, some plain dirty, most have had so much black, red and purple, and f**cking mirrors all over the show, so lighting them is hellish! On one occassion I had the feign camera malfunction to end a shoot I considered to be dangerous, and dealing with the sort who's idea of dominance is getting drunk and shouting a lot is not exactly fun either! Wish I had some decent lights - have to make do with a trio of speedlites - which do sometimes actually talk to each other and the wamera, just like it says in the book! Why poison your liver when I could eat it for you? |
