Some of my hippy friends often say "be well" "blessed be" or "I wish you well on your journey"

They tend to sign off with "peace and love" or "love and light"

I think it's something to do with being outside of society's normal structure.

The friends I'm talking of aren't BDSM inclined though, they're musicians.

Prissy.

As you might suspect, all the cool kids are doin' it. I 'reckon' the language of role play games transitions into the perceived role play employed by (some) BDSMers.

You've suffered language from posters totally in role posting on here (and other sites), I'd imagine the language employed is just an extension of some image or experience of role play in areas outside BDSM...like a rennaisance faires for example - those nutters use 'I pray they good morrow m'lady', and that is dearly reminiscent of some of the langauge propagated on BDSM sites.

Back in the dark ages, when I first started BDSM, most all of the people I knew, in my peer group, in the community were heavily into role playing games. I sincerely believe the source can be found therein.

see? role play = post like a nutter

Unrelated and while I'm here...beekeeping?

'blessed be' is a wiccan/pagan thing, I believe.

The answer may be really simple actually. The reason that so many people say the same things, especially on their profiles, is because they copy and paste what other people say. Why? Because they cannot actually come up with anything to say themselves.

I have no idea why some BDSMy type people like to use strange and formal language online but I do know I find it very hard not to instantly delete any email or instant message that starts with "Greetings"...

It doesn't grate with me re BDSM, though now you've mentioned it I shall no doubt notice it everywhere.

This does annoy me though when estate agents do it.

"I would market this property in the region of £180,000."

Why not, "I'd put this on the market at £180,000"?

They use all kinds of arcane language. And I'd guess the reasoning's perhaps the same - they do it because they see other people doing it, and they think it's the way they should speak?

Kitten.... Kitten!
