I have been on alt.com and collarme.com (both unashamedly dating sites) and was pointed in the direction of IC with the glowing recommendation that it's "like CM and alt, but with more real people!". So far I have found this to be not a bad evaluation

Well, from my experience.. No, IC is not a dating site. It wasn't really created with the intention of matchmaking relationships, but that doesn't mean that you can't meet people who are also looking for partners here.
