It might be worth getting in contact with some people in the US because they do have a lot of expertise in bdsm.

Happiness is a warm bum! :)

Well both. From late 1998 I used to post on a newsgroup called society: subculture: bdsm: femdom and this tended to be dominated by Americans who had a lot of knowledge in the field and some of whom were published academically.

Who do I have to fuck to work with Robert Bienvenue?

The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

There is a network of academics and there is a list of kink aware therapists. I tend to think that an academic/bdsmer 'central project' is a more flexible organism than trying to establish a 'Centre for...etc' Centres end up competing or replicating rather than coordinating. Anyway, www.pinktherapy.com is an excellent hub for academic liaison and offers sound therapy too. As a trainee psychotherapist, I'm doing an MA this/next year: Affirming the Triskelion: How do BDSM/kink-identified therapists integrate personal experience & professional understanding, to work with issues arising with BDSM clients? I've done a literature search and have a sense that much of what has been done covers 'what kinky folk do and what it means to them & their journey of how they gained their identity'. More with a psychosociological slant than psychotherapeutic. Therapy-wise, apart from dismal old pathologising analytic stuff, I've not found much. I am possession of Safe Sane & Consensual (Langdridge & Barker), and Feeling Queer or Queer Feelings? (Ed. Lyndsey Moon), and think this is state of the art. Also Kleinplatz & Moser. There's the Lesbian & Gay Psychology Review, Vol 6 No 3, Nov 2005, which contains utterly relevant stuff. Add in a bit of Dossie Easton, & a few others...

The sort of questions I'll be interested in, are terms of exploring the issues from an insider's perspective, and working with themes in a holistic affirmative way. Developing knowledge for kink-aware therapists to share & use. In a way, I'm moving towards an integrated framework for comprehending bdsm; something thats a flexible frame to aid understanding and helping; Not a static 'x is about this, and y is about that' kind of model. It might fit (for those that have come across this) within something like Petrushka Clarkson's Five Relationship Modalities, and Clarkson's Seven Level/Domain model.

Qualified academic here happy to undertake research in English/Cultural/Media studies - possibly a joint paper to get started? I'm non-affiliated at present due to the overwhelming focus on bankable topics in the Academy sapping my will to live.

Is there enough academics on here to start a project?

I am sure there is a large group of subjects not too far away who may participate.

I know this is a very important subject and a great discussion, but I couldn't resist......

Am I the only one who finds the idea of establishing a sub grouping at the very least intriguing and at best subversive? And by the very nature of the beast, would a Dom/me grouping explode?

OK, bad humour interlude over, back to the serious discussion....

Hi De,

I know that there is a sexuality research group at Cardiff University. Not sure if they've done any BDSM type research but if it were to be going on at Cardiff it would almost certainly fit into that group.
