Anyone had much experience of this and, if so, how did it affect you and/or the session? I recently visited a Mistress who had moved from her previous dungeon and, though she assured me the new property was well soundproofed, at a few points during the session I heard sounds from outside, including her next-door neighbour coughing inside his own home. If I could hear him then surely he could hear us, especially when I was being whipped. It made it impossible for me to sink into the session, so it definitely had a dampening effect for me. | ||||

Nope. No such experience But we've (accidentally) left the windows open a couple of times so Lord knows what the neighbours now think

I do think this has to be looked at from two perspectives. As we are all aware, chambers, dungeons etc are often built into residential properties. Therefore, the factors that have to be taken into consideration regarding soundproofing are twofold; Any sound being heard by surrounding residences/ businesses, and also any sound being heard in the playspace. As sounds of impact, exclamations etc can draw unnecessary attention to the workspace of a sessioning mistress, conversely outside sounds of traffic, conversation and general activity can sometimes be heard by a mistress and client in session. Obviously during sessions some of the most intense periods can be the quietest, so as stated by the OP, hearing outside noise can be extremely off-putting. To this end, before reopening my chambers in a new location I installed soundproofing to the window at a relatively low cost, eliminating both of these possibilities. A session is an important and intense experience for all concerned, so eliminating anything which could mar this is something I see as essential. Edited 21 Jun 09, 8:49 PM by DominaLiza | ||||
