So they have used IC in the past for the same purposes, and I am sure will do so in the future.

The most irritating thing is that to my mind the real perves are the reporters who do this type of thing. You have to be really sick to damage someone's life the way they do, and not give a shit...

Its disgusting how this story reads and how it makes this poor man look. He must have gone through absolute hell after this was published. I can only imagine what he and anyone subjected to this kind of gutter press reporting has to go through when "outed" like this.

There was a thread about this at the time: http://www.informedconsent.co.uk/posts/217109

Meanwhile don't talk to or answer your door to her: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1661083...

I fact the idea solution would be to change their account so that anything they type appears as normal to them and declares their status as personal non gratis to others who are logged in, technically hard to do but it's a system I have seen work on talker sites where the rabid troll in the corner is typing away, they see the insults they are hurling but all others users see a string of phrases such as "ribbit ribbit" (the command was called frog).

It makes it hard to argue for our right to privacy when the bad apple in the barrel cant respect those of others.

The bad apple in the barrel can't be outed on a website like this and from where it is hosted from....Probably for legal reasons. Its hard to tell who is right or wrong, that bit is obvious, although it does stop people flaming others with wrongfull and inacruate accusations, you only have to look at the weblogs for that and the hidden replies that get struck off, when you can sometimes see them.

Other websites like fetlife and the pay ones (b.com) is even harder to tell.

In real life, off the internet,in other parts of the world its likely and hopeful that legal precedents are to be set to be protect BDSM'rs sexuality and the sort of abuse that gets used against them. We shall see next week how that pans out though.

When people like Myler (editor of NOTW) can't out people because of there sexuality, cos its not right or Myler say's to run a story that a bloke is gay or some girl is a lez. Those kind of sex story's might stop.

ooh what's happening next week?

A comment to Admin - if people do use the same profile name here as elsewhere then they do have the option of changing their username and thus create a separation between their fetish and vanilla lives. Except that IC maintains a list of all previous names that someone has use (along with the dates that they were in use). Would Admin consdider removing that little bit, or making it viewable only to the user or their network or something like that?

The problem is we're also trying to make it harder for people to "launder" their bad reputation within the scene. We can't stop people creating new profiles every time they abuse someone and move on, but we can stop them keeping their old join date and posting history, which often enhances someone's reputation.

Furthermore, if people want to make a break with a previously kink+vanilla identity, their posting history (especially where other people have quoted them and their old profile name) needs to be broken with too. So that really means creating a new profile, rather than just changing the name of the existing profile.

Admin

Master and i would like to thank everyone for all their support and help, it is nice to know we are not alone. i thought long and hard before posting, we are just an ordinary couple that enjoy this lifestyle and can really do without this sort of hassle.

Its such a shame that some seem to get their enjoyment out of causing problems for others, i hope the slimball responsible rots in hell.

I just want to say, that people love to debate here whether we are an oppressed group or not, but this kind of press behaviour is one of the pieces of evidence that we are.

We need to think about these instances and think about why they are happening. These outings only happen because BDSM people experience state and legally sanctioned discrimination. When we finish the fight for our rights, much of this will lose it's power.

Copied over from the thread about Sun newspaper doorstepping members of this site alandra and SMDoctor.

CAAN has another letter waiting to be dealt with by EHRC (3rd letter now).

At the moment but I'm feeling pretty cheesed off so I called them to check we are talking to the right person. Apparently we are, but things are soo slow.

I have mentioned to Maurice Shaw from the department that there's more press harassment and intimidation of BDSM people happening this week and that we urgently want to talk in person to Andrea Murray (the head of the relevant department) about why they will not join us in stopping the discrimination people experience around sexuality matters which don't just relate to the gender of our partners (they keep telling us that orientation only means being gay or lesbian or bi - ie that orientation is only about gender). I am being told to wait for our letter to be dealt with.

I am feeling pleased to have found out though, that the person we are dealing with is based in Manchester. If we do not get the requested meeting following this letter, I shall go and visit them anyway, cos I'm done with being polite. If anyone wants to join me, send a memo.

If anyone wants to contact Andrea Murray in support of CAAN's letter asking them to begin to cover all matters relating to sexuality, not just gender, I think her direct email is andrea.murray@equalityhumanrights.com and you can get a copy of CAAN's email from me, if you want to see it.

Otherwise, if anyone here works within the EHRC it won't hurt to spread rumours that we're reaching the end of our tether. :-) We know that there are kinky people in there, and we know you need us to press hard enough to make anything happen. Get ready, cos we're comin' ;-).

Andrea Murray is the person dealing with correspondence from CAAN. Maurice Shaw, who was very nice actually, says she heads the team which deal with matters relating to orientation.

I have started a new thread to deal with this matter here: http://www.informedconsent.co.uk/posts/240205/

De, sorry if I'm being a bit thick, but I don't understand your post. Who are you talking to in Manchester, and are you saying this Andrea Murray is head of a department within the ECHR, or somewhere else?

I feel very strongly about the whole sexual orientation thing, having known that I was kinky at far earlier an age than I had any inkling of whether I fancied girls or boys.

Sorry for my vagueness, I have updated my post. Andrea Murray is the person dealing with correspondence from CAAN. Maurice Shaw, who was very nice actually, says she heads the team which deal with matters relating to orientation. Will add this to original post. cheers for pointing out I've not been very specific.

I wonder if it might be an idea for CAAN to put together a collection of statements (anonymous, or otherwise) from BDSM people, or anyone else who feels that their orientation is not covered, and should be, to take to the EHRC as some information / background. Would you consider joining in with this if we did?
