Hey guys, This is a really random question. I was wondering if this would work. Im looking to make a suspension cake. so like have a normal square cake and then on it make like an arch and then suspend a sugar icing person from it. Would it work...can't really ask my mum lol as i cant think of a suitable nilla reason lol. Also whilst talking about collaring ceremony's what have you seen done/done at yours. I need some ideas currently thinking about some kind of hand fasting but dunno really Iv got a while to think about it :D Thank you Han |

Make a fruit cake, I'm not sure a sponge will stand the engineering. Bake a big rectangular fruit cake in a meat tin for the arch. Let it mature for a few weeks Christmas cake style then cut out the arch in one piece and cover the whole thing in marzipan and royal icing to keep it together. From personal experience unless you are a dab hand at making confectionary it's much easier to buy pre made marzipan and icing. Non autre volonte que la sienne |

Stand the cake (1) arch up, on another cake (2) (sponge (1) on top of fruit (2)) then put thin dowling sticks either side (4 in all) to support this, by sticking it int he cake.
This is what cake makers do. Cover the whole lot if you can with the icing as this will hold its strengh rather than ice each bit. Cover the dowling in thin icing, paint and make it look like the cross bars on a normal suspension post. Make the person as light as possibly by hollowing it out (like beads), or doing it in two halves. I would use thin string rather than licourish as either way, it would have to be removed and the string will not break. What you are trying to achieve is the same idea as this. http://www.wilton.com/idea/Hail-The-Birthday-King The other choice is to make a flat cake with the decor in relief on the cake. Best of luck though its one many professional cake decorators wouldn't do. E Hope that helps |
