Well the next 2 classics of the flat season are comming up with the fillies race today and colts tomorrow. The Oaks and Derby.

In recent years ive done hopelessly at the oaks but pretty good at the derby. This year though i dont really have a scoobie so am backing some fancied longshots.

The Oaks is at 5 past 4 today and has a small feild, have gone for Oh goodness me at 14/1, it was third in the irish guineas 12 days ago and may grab a place again.

The derby on saturday looks even more random with OBrien entering 6 and stable jockey Murtagh proving quite hopeless at picking the right one this season in other races.

Ive gone for crowded house at 16/1, I made both these selections before I had seen that the chuckle brothers are riding them, manning and spencer.

although the oaks winners tend to be short prices and the Derby winners tend to be between fav and 10/1 it really will not hurt this year to pick long priced horses as it would repeat the outcomes in the Guineas races.

Golden Sword may be worth a punt at 33/1 each way or even Mick Channons Montaff at 40/1.

I've really fond memories of watching The Derby (back in the days when it used to run on a Wednesday) through the railings as a small child. I just loved feeling the ground thunder beneath me as the runners passed by (and the treats from various stalls out on The Downs or an evening on the fairground).

*mental note to self* Get your arse back there sometime soon!
