Apologies if this is on wrong board, and this is a long shot at such short notice but if anyone knows any plays with either an obvious bdsm them or a kink-related subtext could you post their titles asap?

Well there's always this thread. This communication was brought to you from the desk of the Pontiff Elect, the benchmark by which purity, holiness & normality are measured.
Bless you. | |

Well, in one sense, almost anything from Oedipus Rex onwards. All literature conforms to the same basic pattern: give someone a goal and put as many obstacles in their way as you can fit into two hours. If those obstacles are other people, then by definition there's a D/s subtext. So I guess the question is, how obvious do you want the kink to be? Leather macs? Then Ian McKellern's production of Richard III might do. Incest? Oedipus Rex. Eating children? The Oresteia.

Well, the angle I'm looking for is plays that subvert hetero-normative ideals in the theatre- for example the character of Medea (strong, ferocious, not maternal) so yes, child killing (if not eating!) has got a mention... Was racking my brains trying to think of any plays with a dominant female and a submissive male lover.

The works of Jean Genet, especially "The Maids". And Pinter's "The Servant". Also "The Night Porter" with Dirk Bogarde and Charlotte Rampling.

Probably too late for you now, but for what it's worth: Special, by John Keates (female top, male sub – very detailed, almost like a documentary) Aftercare, by Steve Lambert

There are loads... all of Genet and lots of Pinter as already mentioned... especially The Lover... Then there's Miss Julie and Patrick Marber's take on it After Miss Julie. Probably most directly relevant is Jim Cartwright's I Licked a Slag's Deoderant... although its not particularly positive... most of the plays of Brad Fraser, if you're interesed in the gay perspective of D/s... I could go on... Best, clyde

The obvious one is Hedda Gabler. The D/S relationship is not overt or explicit but it is a valid interpretation of the sub-text and symbolism.

There actually was one very overt fringe theatrical production two years ago which dealt with the scene itself. |
