I did mine myself, put a 1.6mm ring though, it healed in 6-8 weeks and I then stretched it up to a 3.2mm. It's been fine and will take a fair bit of abuse... although ice climbing when it was still healing led to a painful 'penguin like' drag over the top of a waterfall  I did mine through the lower part of the nipple itself... not behind it. I have had mine done twice in the last 8 years. First time, hurt like a mother fucker, and then a few hours later it wasnt even sore. I didnt have any pain, but for quite a long while I did get little crusty bit around the bar eevry day so I just cleaned it lots with saline. Exactly the same experience with the second one. HOWEVER, I am an extraordinarily fast healer. My tattoos all look like shit, because I heal too fast. SO maybe my advice is pointless, and you should just go right ahead and ignore this whole post. I had my right one pierced a few years ago, when I was single. It hurt FAR more than I'd expected, and I very nearly passed out (lucky I was lying down, really). Once done though, I had no trouble with soreness particularly. Where it was supported by the bra, I could do everything I normally could (the bellybutton piercing was far more trouble, especially getting on/off a horse). Unfortunately, it healed VERY slowly, not assisted by extremely persistent fiddling from my new gf...despite many pleas to leave it alone. In the end, it was still very tender and weeping regularly after two years, so I took it out. I normally heal very quickly and well, so this was unusual for me. Part of me is tempted to have both done, but my experiences make me wary, and the fact that I still have some scar tissue (3 years after taking it out) MUST make it more painful to have it redone. I can't really say whether it improves sensitivity or not, as mine was always just SORE when played with. Fine now though, thankfully! My nipples have always been extremely sensitive, so I certainly don't need it for that reason, but I LOVE how they look. | |

I had my nips pierced over 25 years ago in the good ol days when they could still use a local injecteted anasthic  that said once anasthic wore off they hurt like hell for days and took months to heal but I have never taken them out since and they have never caused me any problems. I did mine myself. I did the left one first, then realised I'd stuck the needle through at a slight angle. So I took it out and did the right one instead. I'm always slightly bemused by people on a site like this worrying about the pain of a piercing - then again I do realise we all react differently. I knew a male sub, he was a big bloke and he had this tiny little Domme and if she wanted total control of him she just had to get hold of one of the rings in his nipples - instant obedience. | |

I know what you mean about it being bemusing - I've had stern words with myself a few times, along the lines of "you've been hung upside down by one ankle and you're worried about a little bit of pain from a needle? You like needle play ffs!" etc etc. I love being tattooed - I even almost came from being tattooed once - but piercings make me nervous for some reason. I'm not scared of needles - I give blood ffs (when I'm allowed to), but piercings always make me nervous. I suppose it doesn't help that the last time I was pierced I almost fainted from the pain.... I had my left nipple done some months ago and I can honestly say it didn't hurt at all but it may be more painful for women, I had my frenum pierced at the same time and that didnt hurt really either. I am just thinking about getting a pa but was wondering about the pain myself!

I can't help but think that piercings are for many a little like child birth... the fear of the upcoming pain, the joy and pleasure that makes it so worth it afterwards, the pride I have in mine is not dissimilar.
I also wonder a little, if it also lends itself to the sharing of the horror stories or the smugness of a smooth ride in much the same way I have wanted for years a number of piercings, and for one reason or another never pursued them. Until now..... Daddy did both nipples done along with a vch in early March. I would say they were considerably healed within 6wks in as much as that all discomfort had passed. Though obviously the general advice is that they are unlikely to be fully healed for year or so, and I'm loving them far too much to risk them in anyway.
I found that the aftercare advice available can vary considerably... I have kept mine clean using a mild antibac soap, and using an antiseptic spray (ensuring it air dries prior to covering) that seems to have worked very well for me. I also tried to make sure early on that they were uncovered as much as possible, again to assist with healing. (or to show them off? I'm generally normal to slow to heal, and have been pleasantly surprised at the speed I appear to be healing. I've been taking a zinc supplement to assist with that and can only assume it's made a difference.
Personally, I went with rings because I prefer the way they look (and I enjoy the sensation of them moving Pain wise, it was no where near as bad as I thought it would be... I am a 'breather' in terms of dealing with pain, so a deep breath in slowly exhaled was sufficient. I'd also recommend sleeping in a bra for a few nights, that seemed to really help whilst they were so very tender. In comparison.... I had 4 outer labia piercings last weekend... Oh my now THAT did hurt! so much so I had to stop after the 4 when we had planned 6. So in my experience, nipples hurt a bit more than a vch, and a lot less than the outer labia if that helps comparison wise?
And does it really matter if it hurts? It is so worth it, I wish I'd done it years ago I am who I am, I can be no other way. Do not pressume to demand change, encouraging development and improvement is another matter. | |

hi,
i had my nipples done a few years ago now while working abroad i cant say it hurt at all, more like the scratch you get from a blood test. i was always a bit of a wuss with clamps etc but i just had it done and i have to say for the first week they were only sore during cleaning and they were healed within a month to the degree i did not notice then but i guess it was a couple of months before they were completly healed it healed better than any piercings i have had other than my nose and i love them. i am in process of stretching them now they are at 4mm but one is not happy so may have to redo but if i had not stretched they would still be fine. take zinc in your diet or supplement as it helps with healing and just go for it you wont regret it. today is history, tomorrow a mystery. life is one long test take it in both hands and embrace. |
