I've never met her personally, and I'm aware that there are plenty of pro's out there who will cater to the fantasy side of things.

I guess this highlights the problem: there are different types of "maid". On one end of the scale you have the sissy satin maid who isn't expected to do any "real" work, at the other end you have the house maid who is expected to clean the house top to bottom. It seems the problem is that Dommes & subs don't always seem to appreciate the distinction and may be expecting different things from each other.

Personally I love the frilly satin maid look: it's the fetishistic transvestite in me. At the same time I know from experience that you got very hot and sweaty doing much of anything in one of those dresses and there is no way I could do any real housework wearing one: if I could, I'd be doing it all the time!

Indeed - when I do maid work (I'm a girl, I'm afraid, so I don't entirely belong on this thread, but...) I normally give the option of maid dress, short skirt and corset, or vanilla outfit. My maid outfits, however, don't come with a tonne of petticoats so it's a little more practical than some of the rather gorgeous ones I lust over.

Personally I wouldn't say it makes me any more submissive, but it does alter the flavour of that submission and prompts a particular sort of appropriate behaviour set. That, though, is a general attribute of costume/dressing and not peculiar to maiding.

As an aside the term 'male maid' suggests to me an image of a maid-uniformed but non-femmed sub, rather than the whole dressed and made up appearance. To that extent I tend to view the male maid/femme maid and sissy maid as three separate, though overlapping, genres.

Humiliation play is an entirely separate matter to 'maiding', though no reason it can't an optional extra, if that's what's wanted, as per my comments on Doghouse_Reilly's other thread.

With regards to what others have posted: I work in one of a couple of different outfits, one very plain, the other (my summer one!) shorter and a bit sluttier, but also no great shakes if it gets damaged. Because work involves scrubbing and kneeling and stretching and bleaching and things that I really don't want to be doing in anything a) impractical or b) expensive.

When the work's done, or it's light duties, that's the time for the nicer stuff to emerge.

As for a nice pink satin frilly petticoated meringue? Bring it on, for humiliation purposes, but don't expect me to get much else done in it than making the odd cup of tea!

I have done eight hours of party work, preparation, service of drinks and food, cleaning floors of spillage and other things. That particular evening involved stripping one of the male guests of wet clothes (he was pushed into Mistress' pool) and drying and ironing them.

All done in corset, sissy with multilayered petti, and 4" heels. Cleaning down the kitchen at one am was hard on the feet.

That does sound wonderful, but it sounds like this was a special event? I'd have no issues at all doing the same if I was required to do so occasionally I.e. special events, or just when my Mistress decided, but day-to-day I'm sure you'd agree it would be a bit much?
