1. If you wash it every day, you wash away natural conditioning oils. Start doing it every other day, it will adjust. Then possibly 3 days, like mine. That's probably max though. 2. If your hair is thick enough, it's easier to accept that drying takes too long and damages hair anyway. I give mine 5 minutes and focus around the ears (as I'm prone to ear infections) then let it dry naturally. That's probably a major reason why it's still this nice at my age. Dryers damage. Besides, the natural dry it gets when I walk somewhere with it damp creates more body.

I could not agree more and wash my own hair every other day and let it dry naturally though when I was backcombing it in the 80's used to blowdry it. It is now starting to thin a little so keep it combed back now. I can not complain I have had 25 years of it. I have no photo for other reasons M M Space travels in my blood. And there ain't nothing I can do about it.

Thanks for the advice guys, sorry to hijack the post and turn it into some sort of hair care thread. I'll try to give it a natural dry on a non-work day but I can't go to work with damp hair especially when putting it into a tail. That wouldn't be nice.
I'm a bit of a cleanliness freak so like to keep my hair clean, you'd think black hair would cover up dirt but just like on cars you can see stuff just as bad as on light colours. Fortunately I don't have any problems with the natural oils, it all seems to be there As an aside: during jury duty I saw a female clerk with hair to the floor. Absolutely gorgeous but I wonder how long it would take to maintain. I'm aiming for something like that or until my bosses tell me to get it cut.

Sorry for not responding for your request for hair care tips for longer hair. Here are some very simple points to keep your locks luscious and healthy: 1) As pointed out already over-washing can be as unhelpful as not washing it. Try to find the appropriate shampoos and conditioners to suit your hair type - e.g. mine is thick, curly (prone to getting very dry) and is also coloured: as such I alternate between using hair products suited for dry/ damaged hair and products for coloured hair. By contrast, some folks are more prone to oily hair so need products more suited for this.
2) Conditioner is your friend! After it reaches a certain length, your natural oils will have difficulty in getting to the ends of your hair so the ends have a tendency to become dry, split and fragile. It will not turn you into a metrosexual 3) Don't brush wet hair! Squeeze as much excess water out of your hair first, GENTLY dry it with a towel and use a wide-toothed comb, starting from the ends of the hair first to remove knots, and then work your way up to the roots. If you've conditioned your hair well, the knots tend to disappear quickly and effortlessly anyway. 4) DON'T YANK OR TUG a brush or comb through your hair - this is a guaranteed way to split and damage it and turn it into unsightly rats tails (also see point 3). Brush it gently - save the rough man-handling for play!
5) Try to avoid tying hair back too tightly, especially when wet. Yes it might give you a Bromsgrove facelift <joke Sorry if this seems like stating the bleeding obvious but I have seen a lot of crimes against long hair committed by blokes that didn't know any better. Any chance of showing us what your hair currently looks like? Nothing like a bit of hair porn for us trichomaniacs! I love to see guys with long hair and I certainly wouldn't throw any of these out of bed: 1. Hugh Jackman as Vanhelsing 2. Bon Jovi (before he had it cut) 3. Marti Pello (before he had it cut) Why do they always end up having it cut ???? Such a shame ! Choozy. x One day my ship will come in, and knowing my luck, I'll be at the airport !!
