This mustn't be allowed to come in the back door.

It should be forcibly ejected and the matter taken in hand so that Voters can sleep well tonight, and sit down tomorrow in comfort. Like bad anal, this chafes, and repeated transgressions will swiftly drive us into the arms of another political party.

Did you ever believe the government wouldn't want to exert control over such a powerful media as the internet. I have seen this coming for a long time.

The fact that Gordon Brown has started to resort to using youtube is actually quite worrying as I can see the day when ISP's are paid to place party political broadcasts on their servers that need active blocking by the user to ignore.

You think I'm paranoid - wait and see.

First heard about this on the bbc news website earlier this week, and to be honest I'm not even vaguely surprised. The surveilence culture that mow seems to permeate al levels of life in the UK is, I suspect, much deeper than most people imagine. Naturally, the govt responds to this with the same answer they have used since first intorducing cctv, i.e. that its for oue protection and if you aren't doing anything wrong you have nothing to worry about. What utter bollocks. There are even so called traffic enforcement cameras being installed that not only measure your average speed (and somehow ignore if you stop) but can cover a massive area by networking. Of course, this also means - purley as a by the way, of course - that you can be tracked as well. But don't forget, it's for your safety!!

I wish I could win the lottery and be able to afford to move from the police state that this once free country was to, oh say China. At least there they are open about what they do. And the sad part is that most people in this country dont even care. They just eat the crap fed to them by the media and the govt. Baa! Baa!

Of this Government I am prepared to believe anything when it comes to exerting control.

That Your-Tube presentation last week was sickening to watch. It reminded me of the Chairman of the Soviet Socialist Republic announcing the next five year plan that would be approved by the Supreme Soviet in the next week.

Fortunately it wasn't approved so there is some hope for democracy at least. Gordon Brown needs a constant reminder that Parliament is the supreme sovereign power in the UK, not the cabinet or the Labour Party. Something he has been reminded of a few times in the last few weeks.

Consultation link is here: http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/about-us/news/commu...

(Well, we all know how much the Government listens to consultations unless the response agrees with them, but at least responding shows that people don't want this sort of thing.)

Sign the statement against criminalisation of possession "extreme" images. Petition against plans to criminalise sexual cartoons appearing to depict anyone under 18.

With Phorm hanging around you're not paranoid in the least. If a group with ties to the Russian secret service can pay our ISPs to monitor our traffic the government doing it is less surprising!

I've been researching this stuff for a feature on the subject and I must confess it's made me a gloomy motherfucker.

The only defence is the sheer amount of data they are having to handle, the task for anybody wanting to examine the data is akin to a dolphin approaching a giant swimming mass of little fish, but even then as the algorithms and systems used to scrutinise the data for patterns become more sophisticated the capability of the government to pick people out becomes more powerful. Not to mention of course the fact that if they already have a name and want to know everything about you then bosh, there's your every communication. When, where, to whom and the content of the message. They get to look through that if they suspect you of a crime, or maybe if you're contacted by somebody suspected of a crime.

Thing is that it's not even a question of wanting to do anything illegal online and get away with it, it's a question of not wanting everything I say saved in a big system for other people to nose through at leisure.

I had to go to a security conference last week where I got to hear a keynote speech from Blindy Blunkett about the issue of privacy and such and frankly if his is the prevailing attitude in government, which it seems to be, then we've all got lots of reasons to be scared. Actually scared, not just nervous or annoyed. The guy dismisses the -entire- issue of civil rights and personal privacy as if it were a desire to paint Westminster green or something equally as trivial and stupid. Hearing him put me to mind of when Tony Blair looked out the window (metaphorically) at two million people telling him not to invade Iraq and just wrote them off as wrong, then did it anyway. The guy has absolutely no interest whatsoever in what the people think, because he knows best, and if you don't agree you're either stupid or The Enemy. Patronising, hypocritical, greedy, corrupt, power hungry cunts. The lot of them. And they probably know I said that too now.

I like being my own worst enemy, because I know where I live and what I'm going to do next.

I am agreement with Shami Chakrabarti and hope very much this is not allowed to happen. I am sure when the all the ramifications are discussed it will not be allowed to proceed through the houses. I am sure the Lords would not pass it unless they are planning to bypass in some way.

Thank you for posting. I posted on another thread that it had gone away.

I always reassure myself with the knowledge that the people who worry most shrilly about stuff like this are the ones who've already handed over their most intimate details to the Russian Business Network :)
