Could it be Pakistan?

This is a great article.

It also reads like a load of bollocks cleverly disguised as a newspaper story rewrite of a pretty fanciful press release. Where do they get this $3 billion market from? Britain is about 10% of the population which equates to £200 million quid a year spent on fetish products. 2006, which was the best ever year for guitar sales, only managed to shift 110 million quids worth of guitars. If the fetish market is twice that, where are the fetish shops? I can find a guitar shop quite easily. There are at least three in Edinburgh. I bet there are more guitar shops in the 80 metres of Denmark Street in London than there are fetish shops in all of the UK. http://www.mia.org.uk/docs/guitar_sales_pr.pdf Science, the only religion that works even if you don't believe in it.

You really think Britian makes up 10% of all fetish products sold world-wide? (Took me a while to figure out that's what you meant.) What makes you link population and spending power so strongly? Wouldn't have to do with people with kit-fetishes and the comfortable level of purchasing said kit and accumulating debt? Or are you arguing that the British make up 10% of kinksters world-wide? The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

It is ironic that they are bombing the advancing taliban a few clicks outside the capital, which is scary enough in itself. But they have always had a big leather industry, possibly mostly to annoy the Indians, but that's where a lot of the cheaper mo'bike riding leathers come from too. Most of my kit gets made here, by my own fair mitts, mind. Why poison your liver when I could eat it for you?

Do you think they supply the Taliban too when they have to flog people who 'misbehave'? Makes me wonder why, with the possible exception of Coco de Mer, there aren't stronger links between the BDSM community and human rights groups (in addition to individual links of course). While we enjoy our right to safe, sane and consensual activities maybe we could be protecting those who might be experiencing the same things but in an unsafe, insane and non-consensual setting. Just a thought. Edited 11 Jul 09, 12:55 AM by The_three_Cs |
