Anyone watching this? Real swingers are on this, and they just walked us round the swinging club with fetish gear...is this just making people think that BDSM is automatically linked with swinging? (which we know it's not...) Any thoughts? x | |

Oh, don't get me wrong - I'm with you on that...but I can see the barrage of comments coming of: "Ooh, that BDSM, I saw that on Wife Swap...with those real wife swappers!"... It's just unfortunate that some people will make those assumptions... Pah... x | |

I used to watch Wife Swap years ago but when they changed to format I decided not to watch it any more. There is a guy where I work who has the image that wife swapping and swinging is all there is to BDSM. I am not going to open his eyes as he has no reason to be in the scene as he knows nothing about it. The reason I stopped watching was it was all dressed up and not about how things were changed within the people and homes involved. It was all about shock and confrontation. I now refuse to watch all the so called 'reality' tv shows for the same reason. I want to be entertained not shocked to watch it. I would go so far as to say that in the last month other than GMTV in the morning (for local news and weather) I have only watched 2 hours of tv. I only put it on if there is a film on that I want to watch. | |

In my admittedly limited experience, once you get outside the big metropolitan areas, the bdsm venues are in swing clubs. So there is a link unfortunately, one of venues using a little diversification to more than one sexual arena to enhance profitability. Get out in the sticks and if you want to run a bdsm event its quite possible the only places that will take you are those swing clubs that are a little more open to ideas about unconventional lifestyles than the pub/club/village hall on the corner. I bet there's a thread on swingers site now, where they are saying. "Did you see that thing on the telly, I bet people think that all swingers are into that weird fetish stuff." There is a link as we use some of the same venues. So what? It's the television equivalent of tabloid press coverage.
