To remember the Hillsborough 96. (8)

I hope the 20th anniversary of Hillsborough can be a force for good things.

I'm glad to see signs that this remembrance is already showing us the real magic of football, which is to bring different groups of people together, not divide. Emnity has no business in football.

I hope that one or two of the haters and the bigots, the Hillsborough deniars, might perhaps some grow balls to enable them to challenge their easy prejudices through knowledge and investigation, thereby becoming better, more impressive, individuals in the process.

Ultimately, I hope that those who died will be remembered in people's hearts and minds and that ongoing struggle for justice, will, one day, allow those souls to rest in peace.

Y.N.W.A. Justice for the 96.

I was teaching in a Sheffield school at the time and to be honest when I think of Hillsborough I think of the trauma one of my 15 year old pupils went through, both on the day and for years after.

You have said exactly what I feel.

24/7 subs and slaves can and do live similar lives, it is only the concept of 'ownership' which separates them.

I remember that day only to well, I was meant to be at the match, but couldn't go as had to have my tonsils out as an emergency op only a few days before hand.

Rest in peace

I am really pleased to see someone post about Hillsborough today.

I am not a Liverpool fan, but hearing You'll never walk alone this morning brought a tear to my eye.

The 96 are in very much in my thoughts today, a real waste of life and a real tradgic event.

My prayers are with them today, as should be the prayers of every true football supporter.

I think therefore I am! (Descartes) If football was meant to be played in the air god would of made it green. (Brian Clough)

'Justice' is a bit of a nebulous term, but certainly there has been positive change in football following what happened, and it's change hard won, in no small part by Liverpool FC, their fans and by the city itself, and all fans owe them for that.

Hillsborough was a watershed moment in football history and one that should never be forgotten. It's bigger than the number who died, it's about the attitude to football fans in this country, about what the gutter press thought they could get away with saying, about how the police treated fans. I remember at the time how the story was being told, the staggering and horrific lies in the press. I think the way that Liverpool as a city and a community fought back against that is an inspiration, all cities should aspire to that level of solidarity. It's humbling to watch the memorial and know that the 96, and also their families, will truly never walk alone.

I like being my own worst enemy, because I know where I live and what I'm going to do next.
