Well, look, its spring, and a great time for new starts, so I'm going to restart this almost abandoned Blog. Sort of tempted to delete, and start all over again, but that would be ignoring the fact that I have been here, have made friends, have been making it real on occasion, just not lately. So lets try to make this blog work again, and perhaps things to fill it up with will come out of it..

Right, prepare for a novel; Where to start. Right here, i suppose, as here is rather comfy. Bless Aldi. I've got their electric training belt working on my (really not shocking - but shocked) belly. That's quite a challenge. And when its not a challenge, I can turn it up. And then, there's the thermals that I got to go with the new 'Bike the other day, these are a surprise. Sort of elasticated leggings, really. I quite fancy myself in tights. I mean, I fancy most anything in tights, 'cos tights (or hosiery generally) are one of the things that I do find sexy. So the fact that I can sit here, and stroke my legs, in tight, black lycra is quite a novelty. I'm already planning on where I can wear them as outerwear. Hell, ballet dancers do it, and my legs are every bit as trim..

So the thermals, I bought for riding my Motorbike.. I have had a bike of some sort since I was 17. My last was sitting in the garden unused for years, so I swapped it on Freeserve with a chap who wanted a project. In a modern twist on the Jack and the beanstalk story, I received in return two sacks of Tulip bulbs. These are striped purple, and the pointy yellow parrot type, and are looking lovely right now. Anyway, it was a good deal, as now, with my new city job, I was able to go out and get the model that I always wanted, a black Honda VFR750. I expected such a big step up on terms of power would take some getting used to, but it is such a friendly bike to ride, I'm loving it, no problems dicing with the central London traffic whatsoever. Cut my journey by an hour on a good day.

..in fact, its got me feeling rather like a dancer, these tights, when I get up and walk around the house. Sexy. A waste..

So spring, in the air. Brings me to another of my hobbies. Usually I construct something at Easter. In the past it has been patio's, greenhouses, you name it. Makes a refreshing change to all the computer stuff that I earn my living with (and here I am again, goddammit!). This year it was my VW camper. Poking at a rusty hole on the passenger step reveals that the whole are is like a nest full of termites holding hands with each other. Hit it with a hammer, and parts scatter everywhere. So that was me this weekend, out with the Welding set and messing with sparks and molten metal. Of course by the end of it, I have a few burns caused by scattering molten metal. Looking through a mask that is so dark you can see nothing else, save the line of glowing steel making a puddle at the end of the torch, you dare not flinch, concentration needs to be absolute, or you'll punch straight through the piece that you are welding. At the end, to be rewarded with a straight shining line, between the old and the new, looking as if you have iced a cake, I suppose the degree of control needed is similar. The fun doesnt end there, Grinding this down then showers you in sparks, again, burning bits of metal get in your clothes and in your hair.

That's it, for the ladies, and I hope that some of you are still with me, imagine being asked to decorate a cake naked, forced to look through dark glasses, whilst being splattered with hot wax. Now imagine that for any imperfections, with the letters, baubles, deviations from the plan, some industrial strength sparklers (OK, I don't really know if there is such a thing) are going to be held next to your skin, so you feel the hot iron filings cooling quickly as they land..

In fact, I'd like to use that one day.. and don't worry, you'll be allowed to eat the cake ;)

I warned that it would be an essay, please encourage me if you got this far! x A

Cheers, Butterscotch. The bulbs thing was like trading the cow for a bunch of magic beans, but now I can look around the garden every spring and think about the times I had on my '80 Suzuki, so I'm pleased.. Perhaps they magic tulips..

lol @ the piruettes.. I have taken dancing seriously at times, at least for exercises, it has a lot in common with martial arts and yoga.. Like a user manual for your body, which muscles to use for what.. Just when I tried to put any moves together I discover I'm hopeless at it.. ;)

I'm glad it's not just me!!

I too am into old VWs, and I know EXACTLY what you mean about the welding. There's something very zen-like about it. Get yourself an auto dimming welding mask - it makes it a whole world easier.

And the lycra thing, well, I'm also a mountain biker, so, err, yeah... that too! :-D

What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Stay away from the cheaper auto dimming welding helmets, sounds like the glass in your helmet is too dark, take out the black glass, should be a number on it and get the next one down, will make welding far easier. Have some basic welding settings around here at work so if you need em just shout.

Thanks for the advice on the welding. I'm pretty pleased that I have got the hang of it, makes a radical change to the computery stuff I do for a living. I tend to only pull out the welding kit a couple of times a year, I though about investing in a new mask, but the price of it didnt really figure for what I do. Some years I've even got an MOT without getting the kit out 8-0
