I just think it's a shame that at least two of the people who posted on the other thread have hidden agendas and have chosen to attack Ex publicly rather than air their supposed grievances with him; particularly hurtful as he had considered them friends.

Other people who have posted haven't made the effort to support the munch in over a year, so what difference does it make to them? Such a shame people have such empty lives with nothing better to do.

Ex has done more for the local scene than any of the detractors, all of it selflessly without trying to make a profit.

What makes the Phoenix munch unique is the people who attend, not the venue. Yes, a lot of us have a soft spot for the Retro Bar, but at least with the new venue you can't smell the toilets before you even get downstairs! But at the end of the day, it could be held in a park and, so long as the right people were there, it would still work.

So well done to Ex for finding an alternative venue so quickly and for not just giving up. We will be there as often as we can :)

Agreed, LadyP.

And the new venue is one of my personal faves on the scene with very friendly, scene hosts. Despite the best efforts of the geographical Luddites on this and the previous thread to say it is too remote to get to, the Bull's Head is in Failsworth, not Oldham; furthermore it is closer to Manchester city centre than Oldham.

Ex is right-let's move on. If people want to start a new munch in Manchester, I hope that succeeds too. The more events, the merrier!

:)

actually its just up from newton heath so not that far really

The reference to Phoenix having its 'own attendees' (a sentiment reflected in other posts) gives the impression that casual or occasional attendees or newbies are seen as "outsiders" who either must attend regularly, or otherwise must have no opinion.

By the above, I simply meant that there are a number of people that regularly attend that may not for whatever reason be able to attend in Oldham. Phoenix munch, despite the (often unfounded) negitivity on ic, from my experience has always been welcoming to newbies, myself included just over a year ago, and I can think of many more examples of this over the recent months.

Like what I did there with the coop?

I did like what you did with the coup/coop - until you pointed out the punchline. Assuming you have to signpost the laugh is condescending, of course - but it usually is the sign of a poorly written gag.

However, this wasn't a bad gag at all, so what pointing out the punchline means is that you really do think your audience is too thick to see your pearls of wisdom.

Oh dear.

I didn't find the joke funny and don't find this guy funny.

But then maybe this guy is a visual joke....you have too see him live too appreciate his stupidity

Having attended numerous munches in various parts of the country (and indeed other countries), including Pheonix and Oldham munches, I can honestly say I have never left any of them without having met some great people and having had a great time.

Maybe, if someone leaves such an event with a negative vibe that is more a reflection of them and the attitude they went in with than it is of the munch itself, the venue, the attendees or the organisers.

Munch organisers, no matter who they are or where their venue is, put in a lot of effort for sod all reward, for the benefit of others. Give them a fucking break.

Use time wisely, they ain't makin no more.

I was always told..I you dont support it we will lose it...so Being the 'newbies' to the phoenix munch as only been going for 7/8 month i can honestly say that i am qiute happy to follow the munch to its new renue. As said i have no beef with the retro where we have always gone but was never happy with the place itself being dark and dingy. The bulls head is alot better place and until people go and see for themselves instead of listening to others, some that have never even stepped foot in the pub, then how do you know if the munch will be better held here. It was voted at the munch that EX stay and run it on OUR behalf and ALL AT THE MUNCH were happy with that so long live The phoenix at The bulls head. Good luck EX, me and chris support you all the way.

BRAT! Me! Never!!!!

That is undeniable.

Out of our evil seek to bring forth good,
Our labour must be to pervert that end,
And out of good still to find means of evil
