A controversial thought maybe...but hear me out wont ya?
So..ive just been to Vegas and had a fab time...apart from one of the flights.
We approached our seats to find a very large lady sat in the window seat. Due to her size she could not put the arm rest down as her hips/bum/thighs took up a seat and a half.
This left me and M with only one and a half seats to sit on for 5 hours...and we aren't tiny people either!!!
We could have complained but im far too British to do that!!
So for 5 hours...we suffered...i got cramp and it was hell!!!
Back to the question at hand then? Can a person be too fat to fly if their size makes others uncomfortable and impede's on them? Should this person have been told she was too fat to fly on one seat?
I have heard that if a person is large/obese then they could buy 2 seats...is this the answer?
Your thoughts are welcome.....
And by the way..Vegas was FAB!!!

I don't think large people should be forced in to buying two seats. I think Airlines should be providing larger seats since obesity is becoming a fast growing problem in countries like America and the UK. Merely catering to their customers kind of thing. Shame about your flight though, that must have been awful! A x | ||

Can 2 thin folks share 1 seat then? Or 1 thinny only pay half price? Bet she had the same luggage allowance as you though, despite weighing more... In seriousness, I believe that in the US it is a regular occurance for larger people to have to buy 2 seats... Despite being a fairly frequent flyer, I've not (yet) been in a similar situation, but I can imagine it to be truly uncomfortable on a long flight, the damn seats are cramped enough as it is. My problem is usually insufficient leg room, and I usually try and grab an emergency exit or aisle seat for that extra couple of inches <ooh err!> IceButch Gone.. | ||

What about tall people who push their seats right back so you have to wear your knees around your ears for 14 hours? Fun in the right circumstances, plane ain't one of them! "Excuse me Sir, i see you are over 6ft. Could you please remove your legs and place them in the overhead locker until we land?" Yeah? Well, Barney's not here right now... | ||

Your quite right that she would have had the same baggage allowance as me...but i didn't take up half of the seat that she paid for did i?!
And on most flights now (the ones ive been on anyways) you have to pay extra now to get emergency exits!
Hahaha...i do have *some* sympathy here...as M is 6ft tall and so sometimes putting the seat back gives her the much needed space for her knees...now if the person infront of her puts their seat back..it makes it unbearable for her and sometimes it is impossible! Still hasn't bloody gorn orff! Doubt whether it's safe to come out yet though. I could give it a prod with spelling contentious. God I'm pissed off to night. Went to the Putney munch last night.
