Ok so the sky blues are up against the might of Chelski very shortly. I'm kakking it, bluntly, as much as I love my boys, they are going to get done like kippers. Chelsea are playing well right now (totally inconvenient timing) and Man City's away form has been utterly woeful. However MH is sending out an attacking formation, so it looks like we'll be going for it. Should be a good game but I can't watch it as it's on Setanta. Bah humbug.
So in a slightly peevish frame of mind, a question. What the fuck is going on with this site, and what the fuck is all this lulz shite that's on forums all over the fucking place?
Gobshites anonymous rather than clever satire, but then I've never been fond of either cowards or deliberate offensiveness. And shitheels on an internet forum aren't that impressive.
There's been some exchanges on this site that have had me crying with laughter. Sometimes they have made me wince. Except I've had more patience for them when it's those who actually mix out and about with people, when it's those who aren't afraid to come out from behind the keyboard rather than just snipe from the cover of an empty profile. Where they aren't afraid to say yes, this is me and this is what I think. Where it's people who metaphorically live and die by what they write. When it's those who don't just shoot from behind the cover of anonymity because they are too gutless to carry any potential consequences of their actions. To be so confrontational isn't my choice, but when it's those who are upfront about it then at least they own what they say. Avoid, or not, as you choose but at least you know who they are.
And then there's others, including the deliberately disruptive, whose usual excuse is "you just don't get me". "I'm really funny but you don't understand me" and "I don't really mean it, you just are too stupid to grasp what I'm about". I think not. I think that people do "get" it and, like chlamydia, seek to avoid where possible. Unfortunately one can get rid of chlamydia with a few antibiotics. Some of these are much more persistent.
Racism, sexism, homophobia, all masquerading as so called satire. It's not just on here, it's springing up all over. You're a cunt because you don't get the lulz. You're an idiot because you don't get the lulz. You take life too seriously because you don't get the lulz. You're stupid because you don't get the lulz. And the list goes on and on.
So when it's all nothing but sniping and cheap shots, when whatever substantive discussion has gone, when it's flame wars and idiocies, then cool. Lulz wins. That'll be just great, won't it? Another victory for the lowest common denominator. Score one more for the lulz.
And on that happy note, time for me to go scream myself hoarse in the vain hope that my boys can come good at entirely the right time. Unlikely but I live in hope.
