While out on a walk yesterday, nature proved generous. the walk itself was actually quite a formal thing, it was a site visit as part of a public inquiry into a planning matter - I was there as a member of the public with certain views on the issue in question.
So, my find was a little bit out of character with the walk's purpose. Unless you say I wanted to give the developers a whipping...
What I found was a wonderful 4ft long whippy branch or twig that seemed like it might be willow (except there were no willow trees anywhere near - it was probably birch).
Testing it through the air made a very satisfactory sound, and I quickly saw the potential for its use as an implement of chastisement. Consequently, I accepted this gift of nature and carried it with me back home.
I found it in a field where sheep graze, so I will probably spray it with disinfectant and neaten it up a bit, but I certainly believe it will be an excellent addition to my toy collection.
