Following up on an earlier controversial post today, I was listening to the Jeremey Vine show on Radio 2, where, amongst other things, the pros and cons of Jade Goody's public approach to her impending death were discussed. On which I offer no opinion, as I've never (as yet, thank God) been in that position.
During the programme it was mentioned that there is a Facebook group which is applauding and welcoming her impending death.
Sometimes the purpose to which the internet is put is gut wrenchingly sickening. I wonder if any of the people in this 'cyber' group would have the balls to stand in front of Jade and her children and still welcome her death.
The internet has many benefits, it is a powerful tool, but it also has a nasty impersonal side, where any Tom, Dick or Harriott can hide behind their screen & keyboard and become part of a pack mentality, posting utter poison.
The level of cowardice & cruelty to which some will sink is utterly beyond belief.

Ah, what goes around comes around...karma !!! Anyone who could wish a young mother, with 2 very young kids, a horrible tragic death, needs to be sick in the head. If you go through life with your head in the sand, all people will see, is an arse

Lulz is laughter at someone else's expense (from the German concept of "Schadenfreude")) This makes it inherently superior to lesser forms of humour - just as the element of surprise transforms the physical act of love into something beautiful, the anguish of a laughed-at victim transforms "lol" into "lulz". Lulz is engaged in by internet users who have witnessed one major economic/environmental/political disaster too many, and who thus view a state of voluntary, gleeful sociopathy over the world's current apocalyptic state, as superior to being continually emo. Not sure I understood much of that, being somewhat internet naive... do you mean they have compassion fatigue? If so, is that a valid excuse for such vitriol??

Yes, let's all laugh at two children growing up without a parent... what a good idea. And then let's excuse it by saying it's because we spend too much time on the internet and have lost all compassion and humanity. I don't particularly like the girl, but I would not wish her situation on anyone. And to be honest, if anyone I knew was a member of that group... I would tell them they were a fecking idiot to their face, unlike the cowardly little arseholes who think that it's funny to be so nasty from the 'anonymity' of the internet. Go spend half an hour in an oncology ward... see if you can still laugh about it. Slightly more difficult to be such a wanker when you're face to face with the victim. Phew that made me rant. *blinks in shocked fashion at own rage*

As for cancer just being funny..... jeeze I'm glad I don't share your sense of humour. Or sense of compassion for that matter.

No matter where you go or what you, there are always the mindless minority. Thankfully the majority are not like them, otherwise this world would be a very sad place to live.

Well let's just hope it's a joke that you never get, even if you are trying to be ironic!!

Never could stand the girl - she just plain irritated me. However - wouldn't wish this on anyone, firstly to know your own fate is so close, secondly for it to be so damned public. I applaud her for making it so public to raise awareness though.
