Thanks for posting this. The letter I sent is at http://www.informedconsent.co.uk/posts/223375/ . There's no harm writing even if you're not in Scotland. Those in Scotland can write to their MSPs too of course. I think this is important for those of us not in Scotland. If the law is stopped, it throws a spanner in the works generally in that they can't even claim to have a consensus against this material in the UK, let alone internationally. If it passes, supporters can claim how the law's supported by two Governments, and there is also the worry that the English law will be broadened in future to "bring it in line" with Scotland's (the Scottish law will also include realistic depictions of "Rape and other non- consensual penetrative sexual activity, whether violent or otherwise"). Sign the statement against criminalisation of possession "extreme" images. See http://www.backlash-uk.org.uk/ and http://www.seenoevil.org.uk/wiki/index.php/Main_... for more details. As this new piece of legislation seems to purely driven by the new puritain SNP, could the possibilty of the SNP suddenly going to the polls as a result of the rejection of their propsed budget kill this off? http://uk.news.yahoo.com/4/20090128/tuk-poll-war...

Conservative Bill Aitken (Glasgow) has gone on the record (Scotsman -- link in another thread) as saying he's against this bill. I don't understand the SNP: it's okay to say NO2ID but not okay to say NO CENSORSHIP? The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

The following blogs have been posted (by me) regarding the Scottish Porn Law.
Feel free to borrow from them as you see fit. Also, if you're going to be writing to your MSP, it's worth checking up a bit on them beforehand to see which kinds of arguments would sit best with them. Go to The Scottish Parliament MSP homepage and search by your postcode for your MSP/s. Then click their name and look to see what their interests are. MSP interests to look for are:
Also, it may be good to look and see how they voted on the NO2ID bills in Nov 08. To find your MSP's voting record, look at your MSP's PERSONAL INTERESTS AND POLITICAL ACTIVITIES and then click VOTE RECORD SEARCH below. The NO2ID bills (3 of them) were on 19th November. You can search all their voting records this way. ETA List of MSP Blogs here. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself. Edited 29 Jan 09, 10:00 PM by skyfox

Looks like there is a very good chance that the proposed budget will be kicked out again. The SNP could well now be on a hiding to nothing. Never ever accused of knowingly ever doing anything nice!

Agreed. At least, unlike in Westminster, the SNP do not have a majority government. Unfortunately, 1984-loving Labour are the main opposition and they would just love to pass a law criminalising as many as possible.
