Amazing walk (3)

No not Kate Moss, ME.

In line with my campaign to improve my health, and control my blood sugars, I have been out for a brisk walk first thing in the mornings.

This morning I had an exciting walk, I was striding along the sea wall in the dark watching the shipping, and listening for the dawn chorus to begin when I began to hear a splashing and galumphing in the mud beyond the rocks. Moving more quietly I managed to get level with the noise.

I could see movement, but not clearly enough to work out what was making the racket, but occasional glimpses, confirmed as the creature appeared on the beach, it was a fox. Whilst moving along with the fox as quietly as I could I became aware of a “skricked scrackedy” noise approaching fast along the concrete path. Quietly I moved back into the shadow of the seawall, and waited as the noise approached.

After a few moments a large grey slug shaped shape appeared from the gloom, moving arrow straight towards me. I could see both pale and dark stripes on it's back, clearly it was in a hurry as it came straight towards me, head down in a full charge.

The badger passed within a foot of me without deviating or giving any indication it had detected me, suddenly the creature came to a shuddering stop, it's nose twitching, I held my breath. The badger was no more than three feet from me, now slightly upwind, so it could not scent me, and facing the wrong way to see me in the gloom.

Mouth open I stood in wonder while the badger decided what had disturbed it's progress, the stripes on it's back were clearer now, as it listened to the splashing and cacophony from the rocks.

For half a minute or so time seemed suspended, then suddenly the badger was running again and “skrick scracked” on his way at full speed again, giving no indication it had noticed me at all.

How lovely.

Of all the things I miss the most about my last home in Staffordshire it was being surrounded by natural beauty and all of the nature which lived within it.

I'm certain you'll treasure and remember this experience all your life and from time to time just close your eyes and picture the whole thing as if it were only just that minute happening.

I know on days when my concrete, ever so noisy, world gets too much for me here I close my eyes and picture the views from my cottage windows, the fields, the trees, the country lanes, the foxes mulling around in the garden, the pheasant hiding from the guns under our hedgerow, the rabbits bobbing around in the field next to us, the woodpecker coming and feeding from our shed roof and many many other wonderful sights and scenes witnessed from our windows alone.

Aint nature grand

Live your life in such a way that when Your feet hit the floor in the morning, Satan shudders and says: "Oh Shit! She's Awake!"
