I've heard of and used mood boards, mind maps and flow charts for all sorts of things...
Today I read about something called 'Vision Boards' and... I feel really inspired. Thought I'd share in case any of you lot felt like having a go too.
You get a large-ish square board and divide it into 9 parts by marking squares; 3x3 across the board. Each square represents an area of your life and you should label them in this order (start top left square, move through the squares to the right side of the board, do the rows below in the same way).
Like this:
Good Fortune - Fame & Recognition - Relationships
Family & Health - Health - Creativity
Study/Quiet Contemplation - Career/Life's Journey - Friends & Travel
Find pictures, affirmations, whatever suits you... that illustrate what you want to achieve or intend to do for each area this year... make sure these things are personal and meaningful to you. Put these bits and pieces in the relevant boxes on the board and put the board somewhere that you can see it daily (you don't have to read it every day).
Note: put a date on everything in each life sector, the date should be at least 3 months into the future.
Examples of pics to put in each sector:
Have fun!

Something similiar - same idea, different name - was part of a motivational course for a job I had a few years ago. I didn't last very long in the job, but I do still remember the concept of the vision board. There's some stuff written here: http://www.selfgrowth.com/articles/How_to_Use_a_... .. that sort of explains some of the 'theory'. The other positive motivational tool that I came across the other say was to sit down each evening and write down 3 (or possibly more!) positive things that had happened that day. A (the) theory being that it's very easy to become introspective and negative about the events of the day without realising and recognising all of the positives. Therefore by actively concentrating at the end of the day on the positives there should, over time be a more positive outlook on life as you realise that good things do happen. Don't know if it works though. Thought this was curiously funny: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7836319.stm ...and wondered if there were a group of pessimists arranging to find some optimists to make miserable and depressed. Let battle commence... Edited 18 Jan 09, 6:41 PM by spero | |

Yeah... I had to do some motivational stuff at my last job. I thought it was rubbish but maybe that was just my perception at the time. Thanks for the 'selfgrowth' link... it's really useful. It's funny you should mention the other tool (noting positive events at the end of the day). In my own way... it's something I try to do every day. Helps me maintain a more balanced outlook on life and all that stuff. "Optimists plan Monday - cheer-up"... how funny, the optimists society have sent 'cheer packages' out to a few celebs!
Hmmmm.... things could get rough if the pessimists start sending 'sad packages'
